Is there a proven way to rid the inside of the windscreen of that greasy slimy film?
I think it comes from the plastics and vinyls in the car. Windex seems to just smear it around.
Any remedies?

You could try eucalyptus oil, is one of those natural gum removing jobbies. I have used it to get sticky stuff off things a few time but it smells for a while.
Try it in a small spot in the corner first though if you do.
And I think for the most part it comes from cigarette smoke, I've only ever seen it in smokers cars.
not everyone wants to pickup trash from the side of the road, leave it for the crims and the junkies.
News paper + Warm water. Put warm water in a spray bottle and then use newspaper to "clean" it.
Dry with chamois.
Has worked for me in the past.
I've had this car from new and it's never had cigarette near it ... the ashtray has never been used. It's nearly thee years old. It's an issue with all cars and comes from the vinyls and plastics according to my research.
My Dad was a heavy smoker and his car had a brown film of nicotine all through it.

cut a potato in half (not our Mr Potato though) smear it on the inside then wipe off with a warm sponge/cloth, also Bi Carb soda works pretty good, though you have to make sure you get rid of all i.e. plenty of wiping with a clean sponge

Don't use armourall.
That produces the grease.
methylated spirits either neat or diluted with water to break down the dirt/grease and as it dries buff with balled up dry newsprint which will remove any smears.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

I use a window squeegee to clean the inside of the windscreen on my taxi.
It's a stupid idea that I tried one day for the hell of it and found that it works very well.
Spray a bit of Windex on the windscreen, shake as much water as possible out of the squeegee, unscrew the wooden handle and then clean the glass.
After each wipe, use a small towel to soak up the line of water so that it doesn't run down to the dashboard, where you can't reach it.

My waterbed broke this morning. Oh, I don't have a waterbed. Bugger.

I use a microfibre glass sponge. Its got a chamois on one side and a microfibre surface on the other. If its really filthy I clean it with windex first. Most of the time I use the microfibre cloth by itself. Works a treat.
That stuff on your window is commonly called "vinyl fog".

there's an excellent glass cleaner called Glitz, which is stocked in Bunnings and is produced in Perth. Wipe off with microfibre cloth. Depending on how much crud there is, you may get away with just the microfibre cloth with a heavy helping of elbow grease.

From a Lexus forum:
I don't it's so much "heat generated" as it's what's considered "off-gassing". These are low level particles/vapors that all new materials such as vinyl, carpet and other synthetics give off for a certain time after installation. It should stop once the materials stabilize. The same thing happens in a home or office when new carpet, furniture, etc are installed.
Ventilating the car whilst parked probably helps the gases escape. Those little solar powered fans that sit on top of the window probably help.
