VTR 250 stock exhaust - improving sound

Hey guys, been searching a bit on the web, and have not found much GOOD info on the stock can on a VTR 250.

I was hoping someone here could help, I basically just want a nicer deeper note without forking out $600 for an exhaust for a bike I am hoping to sell soon.

The back end plate on the muffler is a weld on, so how can I make it sound better?

Drill out the 6 little holes to a bigger size?

Get a long drill bit and stick it down the main pipe?

    Any tips would be appreciated.

Don't do it. It'll just make it an even louder washing machine. Get a custom can, or leave it alone and put the money towards a bigger bike. Preferably the latter, the main reason I got a can was the previous owner had scratched the stock one in a drop.

You should totally drill out the baffle. If it all goes wrong you can always fill the holes back up with Sika-flex.

got a link to the megacycle page?

i can only find them for $500

also, found jmoores old thread that lists all their prices, 500 is the cheapest, not 300!

well back in 09 these were the price of the megacycle

    1st alloy round $425
    2nd stainless steel round $525
    3rd carbon round $575

    4th alloy oval $500
    5th stainless steel oval $600
    6th carbon oval $650

and freight will be around the $35 mark

I had the alloy round on my vtr250 and I was very happy with it.

    Shouldn't need re-jetting then.

I'm not going to tell you that customizing your 250 is a waste of money - it's not, its fun and the vtr sounds great with a custom pipe - but in the long run, you will get much more enjoyment by saving that money for a bigger bike. Unless you're rolling in it of course.

Just noticed you've actually got it up for sale now...

... why bother mate? You won't get any of the money back in the sale.

I'd prefer not to buy an exhaust, hence me asking about cheaper alternatives.

But I don't get my R's til february, so Im not fussed if it sells until then either.
