Spotted a couple of rg500s on when I dropped by for a bit

Very nice tribute to barry, and a wonderful example of an rg500

    Another nice one!

These bikes are 20+ years old and still look great.

Also saw a red/white/black rg500 leaving as I got there!

If anyone knows who owns these bikes I'd love to hear from them. Not to buy them or anything like that (well I wouldn't say no!) but more so to catch up and talk 2 strokes.

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure that RG500 was being ridden by a lady, which is uber hot!
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/

I saw one of those RG500's coming across the grass at SPH and it put a big smile on my face, nice sound. Saw a couple of RGV250's parked as well. I wish I had taken more pic's of the bikes but I think I was a bit overwhelmed by it all... I just spent the day soaking it all up... V nice!

Hi there guys, The RG's in the pics belong to myself and an acquaintance of mine. Roland owns the restored one with the Sheene number and I own the slightly shabbier looking one with the Shark helmet. Incidentally the Ducati in Pewter to the left of my bike is a mate's.
I've had my RG500 for about 11 years! The motor is stock and the bike has done around 47000 km's in its lifetime. Previous owner to me had dropped it, but since being in my care hasn't tasted tarmac. Mods to her include a one-off ride height adjuster, Racetech springs and gold valve emulators (done by Dave 'Radar' Cullen). I have a WP shock for the rear, but trashed the reservoir. That is to be replaced by a GSXR reservior. I had refurbished a set '92 CBR600 rims to go on, but am no longer putting these on. These rims are up for sale, with disks and everything! I had a ball riding the MAD with mates. I think a big thanks to all who organised and assited with the ride.
    regards,
    Rob

I saw/heard these RG500's as i arived on my RS. I nearly hit the curb craning my neck around to have a gawk. I can only imagine what it must be like to ride one. Or maintain it too.
I love two strokes. Because they annoy the shit out of people.

How often do you go out on the 500s? Keen on meeting up with some other 2 strokes for a ride every now and then?

    Cheers

I was just thinking of a 2 stroke ride, picking up my TZR250 SP this week.
    YAY.

Very nice bikes you and your mates got there rob.
Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate the responses. Unfortunately due to having a young family I don't get out as much as I'd like to. Maintaining the RG isn't as daunting as you'd think. I have a service manual and carb balancing is done by lining up dots punched into the slides. For a 2-stroke it has been fairly reliable. Have had my share of frustrations, like the blocked tank breather! That almost made me sell the RG! Story for another time.
The other thing they don't like is too much cruising! They foul plugs when run too slowly.....that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Look, for a standard lightweight 2-stroke the ride is still amazing, when the powerband kicks in. But not as fearsome as some would suggest. Remember this bike only makes around 75-80bhp as standard!
She's been to a few trackdays!
Roland's bike belonged to a chap called Graham Sigley who raced proper RGB500's from the late 70's and early 80's. He sold it to Roland who restored it. Graham moved to Exmouth!

Being new'ish to the forum I'm not entirely sure how it all works. Someone has asked me if the CBR rims would be suitable for an F4I model. I'm not sure how to reply to that. But I do know that the '92 rims are the multi-spoke versions and the rear is narrower than the F4I rim. The rear is only a 4.5" wide, suitable for a 160 section tyre. The front runs a speedo drive and the F4I had long since dropepd that for a gearbox driven unit!
