    Mad ride route details

Yesterday we received confirmation on the final details for the ride, so I can now pass on to you the route details.

Forgive my efforts in paint, I ain't no Maxo. the following should help you to follow it on google maps anyway.

From the start point at Shenton Park Hospital

We exit the hospital LEFT onto SELBY ST
turn LEFT at CAMBRIDGE ST, this then becomes OCEANIC DRIVE
turn LEFT onto WEST COAST HIGHWAY
follow WEST COAST HWY, which becomes CURTIN AVE, which in turn becomes PORT BEACH ROAD.

After the nice s-bend on PORT BEACH ROAD, turn LEFT into TYDEMAN ROAD
turn LEFT onto QUEEN VICTORIA ST.
At the end of QUEEN VICTORIA ST go STRAIGHT through the traffic lights onto STIRLING HWY
Follow STIRLING HWY, which becomes MOUNTS BAY ROAD.

Continue along MOUNTS BAY ROAD all the way past the old brewery, and into town past the convention centre.
    Turn RIGHT at WILLIAM ST
    Turn LEFT at RIVERSIDE DRIVE
    Turn LEFT at BARRACK STREET
    Turn LEFT into THE ESPLANADE
Turn LEFT onto the ESPLANADE RESERVE, where the parking marshals will direct you to your parking area
WALK into the convention centre and see if you can find the PSB/MAD stand.

Better details of the entry onto the Esplanade Reserve

As the more observant of you will have already noticed, there is only one right hand turn in the entire ride, the rest of the trip is either left hand turns or straight ahead. This isn't a coincidence, we deliberately tried to achieve this, as hopefully it will do away with all the problems of the ride turning across traffic flow, and ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for all involved.

So where is the VIP marshal parking, and do we get fake lawn to park on if it gets a bit muddy?

Serious, looking good lets just hope it stays dry!

Rain, what rain ( said with a manic laugh in the voice )

At the moment I think this is the single largest worry that the committee have, and we are powerless to do anything about it.

At Shenton park, we are going to assemble all the marshal's bikes in a separate area to the rest of the ride masses. At this stage I am hoping to be able to use the basketball courts, but don't have a definite yes on that yet. This is for 2 reasons; firstly is that to me you guys are all vip's and without you we would not be able to make the ride happen.

Secondly, until all the marshals and all the main ride attendees are there, we will not know things like the size of the groups we are sending out, and how many marshals we will have per group. To make this work we need to have all the marshal's bikes easily accessible, so when the time comes for you to move into the groups your bikes aren't blocked in.

There will be a marshals briefing just before the main rider briefing, at which time we will have all these details sorted, and any special instructions/ advice/ contact details, etc will be given out.

At the Esplanade, one of the PCC conditions for us using the site is that we have to lay in excess of 100m of special, grass safe matting/ roading. Once again, at this stage all the details aren't sorted out just yet, but we may have to lay this stuff ourselves, and if that is the case we might have to put the word out for some help with that.

Other than that, we have thousands of little wooden blocks for under sidestands, and are currently contacting whitchdoctors and other spiritual icons to ensure that it doesn't rain

    NOTE:
( there may or may not be a plan B in the pipelines, unless required, details aren't necessary here )

For an easier, more professional, one hit map of the route, here is something that I have unashamedly stolen from a PM I received.......

At this stage it still seems unlikely I'll be able to get back to work before the ride, so i can also help out with this.

Minor change to the ride route

    Guys and Girls,

Just to let you know that there has been a small change to the route for the ride. This was done to cut out a set of very unfriendly traffic lights, they had a very short green time in our direction, and would have split the ride up.

The map below shows the new route, as I said it is a very minor change, but one that we hope will help with the flow of traffic.

Please pass this info on to anyone you know that is going to be a ride marshal, and may not have seen it

    Thanks, see you on Sunday.

Ah so instead of turning left at Queen Victoria Street, we keep going until Stirling hwy then turn left?

Thats a good idea - means we can fit more bikes into that spot before we hit Stirling Hwy.

Cool. That was the set i was referring too when i asked opinions on marshalls blocking traffic. They're shocking.
