    choose your own adventure books

    Howdy
Its 2 sleeps and a bit to Christmas and I can't find any Choose Your Own Adventure Books to give as pressies to my nieces (9yrs and 7 yrs) Would anyone have any good condition books on their shelves that they would be happy to sell to me?

I have exhausted all the regular chain stores and its not a line they carry. Basically if it doesn't have a vampire in it, then its not something they are interested in selling. Seems like on-line is the only way to get them but I've left that too late.

I'll go and check out Elizabeths 2nd Hand but from memory they don't carry too many kids books.

Here are your options for reply -
    a) yes I have one or two and they are all yours
    b) nope can't help with that but can recommend ....... instead

Can I post option c)...? Have you tried smaller book stores? Crow books in Vic park, planet in Mt lawley, there is another in leedy, another one is across from the brass monkey in northbridge. Don't know where you are situated but I know some of these have great kids selections. I usually call in advance to cut the leg work out.

Good luck, I loved those books as a kid. And feel free to tell me to GTFO as this is neither option a) or b)

Ditto. Used to love reading them in the early 1980s. You'd think that there would be an iPhone app version of them by now.

My waterbed broke this morning. Oh, I don't have a waterbed. Bugger.

Lolly, give Elizabeth's bookshops a call. I saw a few in the Freo store a while back and think they have them from time to time. Oh yeah, used to love these books.

Last option would be to try any of the Good Sammy's, or Salvo's stores, they always have books of all sorts in them. But, the catch is you'd probably have to go look for yourself. not sure whether many of them know what books they have.

    good luck.

Hmph, I should have at least 3 or 4 of them from my younger days. If I find them when I get home from work you can literally have them, should be in good cond.

    Thanks so much all.
Planet online showed that they had one, but alas they didn't have it on their shelves. Elizabeth's didn't have any but they referred me on to a children's speciality shop in East Perth. Just got back from there now and happy to report that they had two - ready for me now to wrap.

To be honest its more the nostalgia of these books that I love. I actually never found that I could get into them as well as a regular book but the novelty and memory of them is something I want to gift.

Thanks again, if the girls like them I'll source additional ones online.

Wow, the old Steve Jackson adventures. It's great to feed the child imagination when so much is now visualised for them so thoroughly. I think we are a fortunate generation, getting the best of both worlds, and passing it along.

I remember the old "goosebump" books with alternate endings- they were the best. A puzzle and a story in one.
I have a really beautiful picture book that is a "choose your own adventure" but I could never sell it....
Otherwise I can only recommend smaller book stores and the second hand stores. Also- OpShops are great for books and lots of kids books are their. I sure you could find something.(salvos normally have a good selection of books)
    Best of luck!

Around the same time in Primary I was reading choose your own adventure, the Hardy Boys books came out as upside down 2 stories. You read to the end (read middle) then flip the book over and start the other story.

man this brings back memory... when I first came to Aust, I remember these were the books to start me up with actually "reading" books instead of looking at pics... (yeah, I was only 11 then ).. this also started on my love for fatasy novels as well too...

I remember I used to go to the public library and borrow these books... but I do see them occasionally now at old book stores as mentioned by everyone... The one at Belmont Forum used to have a good collections of old fantasy novels... cant remember the name of store, but sure you can call the forum info desks to ask for their number... its just next to Westpac and the Petstore
