Small Business Server 2003 or 2008 genuine license

    Hi,

Thought I'd ask here, does anyone have an old SBS license no longer required? 2003 or 2008, ideally 2003 though as it'll be running on fairly modest hardware.

Setting up a small test environment, and hoping to do it on the cheap. Let me know if you have one and how much you want.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Unsure why you would want to setup a test environment with outdated OS's. Have you looked at getting a technet subscription?

Yeah, I probably have a few lying around. Nothing wrong with 2003 either. Let me know EXACTLY whats written on your install discs, and I'll see if I can find you a key.

    Hi all,

I <3 Holidays: Reason for 2003 even though it's outdated is the hardware will likely struggle to meet 2008's min requirements, nor is there a real need for it to be cutting edge, the OS is rather inconsequential.

What exactly do you want to do with the server?

I only ask, because SBS is dreadful and needs to be killed with fire.

Obviously hes load testing an old box to test stability. What else would you use SBS2003 for?

nikonzero - sbs runs up to what, 20 seats? I will buy you twenty notebooks and twenty bic biros if you promise not to use SBS.

You will thank me for the increased productivity this move bestows amongst the twenty intended victims of this insanity.

Just wait until you see a SBS2003 with terminal services integrated on the same server. Pure abomination.

My father uses Windows 98 SE on his home PC without problems and has done for over a decade. That doesn't make it OK.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it's given me a good laugh on a Friday afternoon. Honestly, if my hardware was capable of running 2008, that's where I'd be going. I need it for a small project I'm working on and can't go much more into it. I would much prefer 2008 with Exchange 2007, but I know the old server I have to work with will choke and die.

Plus, from a cost standpoint, 2003 will be cheaper, which again fits what I need right now. Not a huge fan of SBS either, but don't really want to go VM route and add more complexity to the solution right now. I acknowledge SBS won't necessarily make things simple either.

Thanks again for the support guys. Hoping I can get a hold of a license soon.

Still haven't really told us what you need the server to do dude.

Is it just a toy, a project, a business machine?

Halfway between a toy and a project atm

Missus has an Android phone and is in love with it. But all her friends in Asia are rocking Blackberry's for BB Messenger. Doesn't want to have to perpetually switch SIM's between devices, nor get another mobile service to use the service.

Setting up BES Express tied to Exchange with WIFI activation enabled to let it work when connected to the home wifi network.

I've suggested Google Talk is available on Blackberry handsets, along with Whatsapp and various others, but BBM is what they all use.

Yeah, although apparently Blackberry is going gangbusters in South Asia right now. I sent over some Android handsets to her family and they were left in the boxes.

Dunno about 2003, but sbs2008 lets you run for 60 days without needing a license, and I'm pretty sure you can extend that 2 or 3 times.

Sbs covers up to 75 users or devices.
"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all"
