Just read the review in Australasian Dirt Bike magazine, seems to be mostly positive. Anyone else read it?
I'm still a bit skeptical about this EFI donk, when they brought out the YZ450 with EFI they used a reverse cylinder design in my understanding because they didn't think the contemporary design would be suited to the EFI application. Now they have brought it out in the WR450 and I'm wondering whether it is a bad thing or a good thing?
I've owned an 05-WR450 for a couple of years now and have used it everywhere, it spent time as a dedicated sumo, I spent a lot of time trail riding down south in loamy dirt and single trail. It's spent six months in Kalgoorlie keeping up on the track, its been down to the softest beaches of esperance and the only place it seems to let me down is doing decent size jumps (probly coz im almost 90kg and the rear shock is shagged). In saying all this I've found it to be the perfect all-rounder and am keen to start looking at upgrading. Would love to stay with the WR-450 as through all this I've never had a single problem with it.
I sound like a Yamaha ad, maybe they'll sponsor me for this post.
I guess what I really want to know is what was wrong with Yamaha just putting the YZ-450 donk in, being their flagship moto-x motor you would think? I initially pondered if Yamaha would bring the reverse cylinder design in at a series 2 stage or something in the future but I very much doubt that will be happening.
