what day does it start?
It starts on Janurary 1st. First run is on SPEED TV each day, at 8am EDST or 5am in Perth and then again at 7pm EDST (4pm perth time). Episode 1 is on January 2nd. SBS are showing it too, at 6pm each night in Perth.
There are seven Aussies competing:
Geoff Olholm, Desert Warrior (Car)
David Schwarz, Husaberg (motorbike)
Rodney Faggoter, Husaberg (motorbike)
Mark Davidson, KTM (motorbike)
Craig Tarlington, KTM (motorbike)
Dean Nuttal, KTM (motorbike)
Jamie Chittick, Honda (motorbike)
Geoff Olholm is a bit chance for a top 10 finish this year, having rebuilt his car. I'll have more news on Geoff tomorrow.

If you listen to the repeat of the radio show thursday 5-6pm (it originally went to air monday afternoon) I have a Geoff Olhm on and Steve Conelly from team Husaberg Australia links to the teams face plant pages as well. Too much Dakar is simply not enough!

Over on advrider.com there is a guy in Perth who is getting ready to do Dakar 2012 on his KTM 450RR. He did the Australasian safari this year on it, after paying only $55'000 for the bike (!). I'll see if I can find any more info on his project.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon! Press the brake foot as you roll around the corners, and save the collapse and tie up.

I work with him. This is the link to his bike project:

Also, Rod Faggotter's performance in the Australasian Safari was pretty impressive - 3rd place despite riding for 5 days with a broken hand

ADVrider will as always have a thread going with any updates you need, that is if you can keep up with it! Went to lunch last year, came back and it had about 7 more pages!

Or just hit me up when it's done and you can grab a copy of all the episodes off me as I download the Eurosport ones and the SBS ones.

Bah! They're late to the party! SPEED showed it at 8am (5am in WA) and we'll show it again at 7pm (4pm in WA) tonight!

I'd have speed if I didn't have to buy three other channels of footy (all codes) cricket golf and tennis activities of which I have precisely zero interest in.![]()

An Aussie in the top 40 of the bikes!
Coma used to be my hero until a couple of years ago when he cheated, so I'm going with Despres this year.
It will be interesting to see how the Hummer goes when driven by someone as expert as Al-Attiya. Not good I suspect.
