As for the drZ400s , isn't it single rider registered only??
Just kidding. No pillion pegs on those. Just having a dig at those people who suggest bikes like those to someone wanting a learner dirt bike or a dirty for the wife.

Don't think the DRZ400 would meet your requirements - they're flipping huge.

I'm sure on this site if someone wanted a commuter bike recommendation it would start a R1 vs Hirebusa discussion as to which is better.

    *sorry for OT

My main issue is the fact that i have to get my boney girl arms to get the bike on and off the 'van. After a month cruising from perth to Exmouth last year via the coastal towns , I noticed the issues of loading/unloading the bike off the back each day or so.
With about 230 kilos of top heavy DL 650 to load that is quite tall as well , it is a recipe for an RFDS flight :0

So do ya reckon the 'Buse would be ok for loose sand?

It's a compromise from the start. I know everyone always recommends their own bike, but if you want to be comfortable, stable and efficient 2up at highway speeds, and be reasonably capable offroad, you need one of the 650s. Which one, doesn't really matter. If you want to be able to do the highway, the 400s/450s will do it, and be better in the rough.

If you will only be on the highway for short stretches when you have to be, and you have a skinny mrs, the 250s will be lighter and probably the best tool for offroad. But they will suck nasty hole overtaking at 100+.

unless they've changed the model lineup the drz400e was the single rider enduro model, the drz400s was the 2up dual purpose road trail model and the drz400sm the supermoto.

around 140kg wet so not too heavy, but high seat over 900mm so pretty tall, will handle short bursts 2up at 110km/h+ for passing and touring though so worth consideration as the 250s will take longer to get motivated.

Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

WR450, Will have more power and be lighter than your DRs and XRs. Pretty sure it comes in 3 variants these days. Enduro, road trail and SM. The road trail model would be registered to carry a pillion one would think.

    and it's my Supermoto...

How heavy are you and your wife? If you're both lighter than a feather then maybe a DT175/200?
Good old reliable 2 stroke farm bike types. Lighter than anything, and cheap as chips!!
Many of us had them as a first bike.

I could swear I read an article in ADB where they tested the softer version but can find anything on it. Must be mistaken could have been something else. I've deffinatly seen brand spanking SM at the dealers, these are probably put together at the dealership.
Still a WR 250 or 450 would be my pick.

250 yes, 450 no - it's a mildly detuned Moto-X bike and not setup for pillion at all.

Have been poking around a bit and it seems that I have the smaller, kind of downspec versions , or the taller bikes which will bit a bastard for the wife to get on. [and it will be too tall for her to ride by herself].

Will either bite the bullet and go the WR , or buy the XR230L and put up with it.
