XR 400 good bad or indiferent

I have heard of people converting their xr400's to elec start by uning the starter and casing from the honda 400 quads. I went for a drz400 because (despite being a primitive tractor) they are a bit more modern than the xr and water cooling allows for finer tolerances and more power, yet still reliable. Many a stack and no busted radiator yet (touchwood) but have to convert mine to kick start too (flat battery and no licker = possible disaster), have converted one, now to do the other. I have ridden plenty of xr400s and have had mates who swore by them, they are a good all rounder, dont think u can gop wrong with either the drz or xr, depends on which one you want the most.

good choice go for the xr 400, whatch out for the swingarm bearing seizure, pretty common,,, needs a greese point put in there.. Other wise the oxy will come in handy.
