I've been doing a little looking into this for my 675, and the PitBull brand gets a good wrap. Good construction and a hinge arrangement so you can move it out of the way if you need to take fuel tank off. $420 US delivered to my door, which means about $430 AUD at the moment

According to one US supplier I was talking to, the GPR's have an oil leakage issue and they are not supplying them anymore due to about a 50% fail rate

A lot of people ryn the GPRs and so far I haven`t heard any reports of them leaking... I got one on my CBR and it works a treat. Easy to adjust on the fly...

The new GPR 4.0's (only ones available anymore from GPR) have a huge failure rate. A lot of US on-line stores are moving away from them atm. However having said that, of the 7 that I've brought into Australia, only one has had an issue to date, and that is currently being looked at, although slowly due to the big backlog.....

Pitbull are another up and coming brand. Or you could go for a tried and true method such as the Ohlins (about US$650 including mounting kit) or the Hyperpro RST ($420 including mounting kit).

In all honesty, unless you are really pushing the bike, and you don't have the bike suspension set up for you and ryour riding style, its unlikely that you will require a steering damper. It would be better to spend $100 and get your suspension set up before buying the damper.

I'd suggest pm'ing Marty Moose on the forum here, he'd go through setting up your sags for you, as well as doing some basic suspension refinement, which would remove 9/10's of the likely hood of requiring a damper, and saving you $300 while you are at it........

Something else that may be the case with your bike...
Some steering dampers require you to drill the frame. The Scotts Damper which I originally chose for my 06 R6 got crossed off the list as soon as I found out it required drilling, while the GPR fits to the existing mounting points. I'm not sure if any of them are like that with the 08, though. Just bear it in mind.
