New Business/Markets/Economy Website.

Hi Guys.
I'm currently building a new Business/Markets/Economy website. So far got a forum up and running (currently only covering ASX, but will be adding a heap more forums covering many topics). Will look at adding news feeds and many more features as it goes along.

Site isn't finished by any stretch but I thought I'd open it up for you guys as I know there are a heap of PSBer's interested in such topics. Each company listed on the market has it's own forum, and as such at the moment its a bit large to look at, but as I said it's not finished and will be easier as it comes along.

Feel free to check it out.

Haha how did ya know I was doing that?
Oh I have posted it a few times I guess.
Um depends...I'm going to to the advanced as well, so about a third through in total. Currently just going through the individual subtopics for the diploma. Finding it a little bit difficult to stay motivated at the moment but getting there.

You doing it aswell?

I have every intention of being a planner in the future. My commerce degree wasnt in finance so legally I have to do it.

Unfortunately it means I can't really post on my own website.

My lack of motivation is more to do with the fact that I feel like I'm learning new things only 20% of the time max. Having done a lot of it either at uni or in my own time, I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself to do it all over again. I know it should make it easier but sometimes it is just a little frustrating.

Anyone here any good at module development for .NET framework? Need some little modules made up for the forum.

Dave

Have just added property, forex, commodities, deriviatives, overseas markets and more to the forum. A bit more topic diversification for those not into shares but still interested in investment.

Who are you doing it through ?

Unless your doing via a diploma course and the diploma is actually the outcome not the RG146 accreditation then there are easier ways to do it.

Ok.

So the 146 is just a bonus. Your actually just doing the Diploma for the education it gives you in its own right.

Yeah sorta. I am qualified as an Advisor, but I dont advise. I do other things but I maintain my skills.

I did it the hard way.

I started as a floor operator managing orders for up to 120 advisors then worked my way up from there expanding my education as I went and Im still studying.

So I did my stuff while I was working.

Oh nice work. Which firm are you at?

I am in the unfortunate position in that I am moving to Bunbury for 8 months towards the end of August. Something tells me kick starting my career in planning might be a little bit difficult down there.

I'm looking at getting a planning job for one of the big 4 banks and getting some experience then looking to boutique planning from there. Would you recommend such a path? If not what would be your reccommendation?

I want to be a senior/advanced CFP.
I don't have any experience in a planning firm, but do have some handy contacts in banks. I don't have any issue with starting from the bottom in a firm though.

Fair enough.

Well if banking FP is something your interested in and you can get in the door, then yeah its a good place to start.

Ideally you want to find somewhere that the staff are experienced, well regarded and willing to mentor you. (yeah I know ... obviously )

A number of the bigger broking houses have FP arms that would give you a good start if you can get in as a para.

Join a few of the associations and get out and amongst the industry members. that way you can hopefully build up a good network of contacts.

It definatly is a small industry, everyone talks, so shouldnt be too hard to get your name out there. As hewie mentioned, getting into paraplanning is a decent way to get started as it gives you a good foundation of knowledge to build off. We have a Snr Paraplanner whos's CFP and an authorised Rep. She commands a salary similar to advisers, and she doesnt have to worry about giving advice. (although as she's authorised she will soon!)
