You could try SailPower in Claremont. They sell Hobie Cats, so they may be able to help ya.

sailpower....*shudder*

If theres much I remember from my dinghy racing days, its that sailpower don't understand the word 'cheap'...
..to be fair though, that goes for all of the marine industry... as soon as you involve the word boat the price seems to double..

"oh did you say it was for a boat? ohhh... no mate..I meant $400, not $40...missed a zero..."

I found a few netting manufacturers on the net so should be able to get something made to size without parting with too much $$ thankfully...

other than that my old audio stuff from the previous van is sitting in my cupboard waiting to go in the new van... need to buy sub+amp as well... nothing too fancy...

so many ideas that I want to add to this van, so little time...

Australian Netmakers in O'Connor 9331 1955, i used to work there although they probably wouldn't remember me from 7 years ago...
Brings back memories... we put up the net over the penguins and wetlands at perth zoo, and shade over PMH rooftop play area.

But back on topic, they would be able to make up something like that for you quite easily I should think,
No idea what they would charge you though.

Nah I've been to sailpower and others several times before... I can find netting much cheaper somewhere else though

Netting is sorted anyway... I get bored in the meantime and turned to Ebay to satisfy my need to mindlessly purchase useless items I will never use...

but then I had an awesome idea... putting fully sick neonz 12V system in the roof gutters of the van so you can't see it but it still shines up a pretty blue light...

as always, Ebay puts out like the dirty cheap whore she is -
I now have 2 x 'super happy good time fun light show 3m length mr happy 12 volt' lights on their way from Hong Kong:

my foolproof diagram:

tempting, but they are probably a bit out of my price range at the moment...

Still... fully sick neonz + doof doof =

man I need more $$ for doof doof... or cheap doof doof... keeping in mind that the total expenditure on the van so far is still under $100

little bit of column A....little bit of column B...

there will be a couple of beanbags in there as well...
I tried to find some plush deep-pile carpet but settled for some more durable stuff

As for the bed, building a false floor as per last-time (I don't have any pics of that) proved to be too much effort and too messy...

This time I think I have two easyish options which still leave heaps of storage space:

Option A - Blow up mattress... there is easily enough room to fit one, easy storage when not in use

Option B
(and my preferred option) - get a nice big piece of canvas and make a big wide hammock that is supported by the seatbelt mounting points at the front and back... or possibly some reinforce mounting points...

hammock can then be rolled up for easy storage (or drycleaning ahaha)

although honestly if I have a couple of beanbags in there they will probably be just as comfortable to sleep on

i get ya point.
i was lookin at getin a van and making up a crazy false floor/bed that could fold up so i could put bikes in/ have a single bed, plus a few other funky tricks for windsurfing gear storage.
one day, one day.

try going to somewhere that sells carpet as the amount you will need is the sort of amount that they will find useless and be willing to part with for $5. Try carpeting the roof and walls as well so it's insulated. Maybe put air vents in as well so your gear doesn't get too hot in the van come summer

already got carpet

Like many vans it is double skinned so insulation isnt really a big deal, also it has a vent in the roof that you can open...as well as windows...so should be sorted..

Stevo..
For your roof net make your own..
Head down to bunnings or supa cheap and buy a heap of the tie down straps.. the longer the better..
find an industrial sewing machine (preferably owned and operated by some one else) and voila... roof net with racket tie-up system..

yeah I was thinking about that hey...

I can get long rolls of nylon webbing (tie down style) or even seatbelt webbing for pretty cheap...
the only issue is the effort factor

Actually now that I think of it I have access to some sail glue that would be more than up to the job of holding everything together

Ah Stevo, the original bus was pretty awesome, and we inhaled sooo much of the toxic toxic spray can fumes causing almost irreparable damage to our brains. I salute you for embarking on round two. I only hope that this new van will contain as many memories as the old one...
