Ahhh ... brings back memories! The ST was the first multi I owned back in the early 80's. Smooth, quick and, compared to quite a few Jap bikes of the time, quite nimble. Good to see that this one has ended up in a good home.

Got the tyres fitted today (cant beleive the rear tyre is the same size as the front of the Busa)
Taped up, painted and cleaned the ally last week. The tapeing took neally 3 hours to do. Got a lot quicker on the last rim, next bike should not take as long
Tomorrow will strip the rear shocks so should have a rolling frame by next weekend

The GS1000 has one of the nicest tank shapes ever, so simple and smooth.
Well done on saving it!

Another great bike from the 80's like my old Gpz 1100 A3.
There were plenty of them down Ravenswood years ago

Thanks, the blue bike is a SN 79 model and nearly all the electrics are different to the ST.
The SN has points were the ST has electronic and the carbys are different. To change carbs you have you change air box outlets. I have learnt the hard way just how much they look the same but do not interchange.

Finally got the bike to rolling stage.
drawings 017.jpg
Started sand blasting the motor to get all the coats of paint off. I think the last owner just painted the motor instead of cleaning it.
All the end cases wil be polished and im making up a list of stainless allen head bolts.
drawings 020.jpg
When cleaning all the paint off i have found that every bolt, bracket, even the battery box were chrome. They are to far rusted now but i think it would have looked good in its day.
The rear springs have come back from the powder coaters so now i have a box of parts for the chrome platers.

Looking lovely! There is a shop on ebay that does cap head stainless bolt kit's that replace all the standard cover bolts, they do most of the GS models, you just have to tell them year and specific model. Polished too, worked out an ok price compared to measuring every single one and taking the list to a fastener supplier.
I know a lot of the GS models shared a few of the bits in the running gear department. I've got boxes of parts I've pulled off my 550 which will just get given to wreckers or scrap metal yards if not used. If there is anything you could do with spares for or bits you need let me know and I can tell you what there is. Pretty much all I've kept is frame, bodywork and engine, rest is all being replaced.
