Project Heathen R1 - The Second Evolution

From mild mannered to HEATHEN in 2.9 seconds .....

When last we left our modest hero ... he was contemplating a quiet life ... his paisley slippers sitting askew on his feet ... a maple pipe clamped loosly between his teeth ... curls of smoke drifting lazily towards the low ceiling of his study ... and a snifter of brandy swirling like a golden whirlpool in his hand .. all from the comfort of his tired old armchair by the fireside.

Ok ... maybe not ... but I have been fighting the urge to buy more bling .. that was until the day I blew the electrics on the R1.

As you may recall .. the last evolution of the R1 bought it to this stage.

I was pretty happy with that ... it had made the cover of Rapid and was pretty unmistakable on the roads.

But then fate stepped in and I blew something in the electrics ... so I was left bikeless and pondering that age old question ... do I fix the bike and go back to riding it ? or do I get another one and build a full custom.

Guess which I chose

So with a new daily rider and a rekindled vision .. once again I turned my attention to the R1.

Over the next few months I will document the development of Project "Heathen" R1 .. in tandum with this project I will also be developing the "Daily". (This will be in a separate thread)

Stay tuned.

The Skunkworkz is open for business and it time to turn up the heat ......

I seem to have misplaced most of the bike

The last of the bike came apart tonight. Arwon and BlackFZR dropped by and lifted the engine out for me (thanks guys) so I can start getting a few things done. Engine is off for a freshen up and the frame, subframe and swingarm are off to be media blasted.

And then its time for paint, powder coat and chrome.

Thats cool. Ive already cleaned up the thread a couple of times and I will delete all the crap again later, including all my own posts.

I only leave it here while Im waiting for parts to be finished/delivered.

As for having a "proper" build thread .. well that will happen too. But unfortunately all I have at the moment to show you is a whole pile of parts in boxes and a half built engine on a stand.

All the metal work is out being finished and coated ... and all the plastics are off being painted.

As Arwon/Dubs can attest too ... the workshop is bare ... and Im just working on small jobs while I wait to start in earnest.

At this stage it will be engine in frame next wednesday evening .... so thats the starting point of the build process.

Cheers

H

Keep this thread with the closeups of the new parts going, Hewie. It's good to see these bits before they're installed, see the detail etc!
