Yeah mate still at the same bottlo, long time no see,
lol dude nah it's not illegal it's just not good business, The tax is too high so too hit a reasonable price point they are dropping the alcohol. They've been doing it for years in different ways like making bottles smaller and so forth but it's just more noticable at the moment because it's effected the whole trade all at once. before the changes the 8%+ catagory was one of the fastest growing segments in RTD's.
The tax on spirits hasn't gone up 15% they've just increased the tax on alcohol in rtd's to the same rate as that in the bottle which was previously a loophole. (rtd's actually decreased in price when GST came into effect). We have just gone through cpi which happens twice each year Feb and August and effects everything. Sometimes more noticably than others sometimes less so. Most ctn's of beer for example have just gone up a dollar. Some have not though and that mostly comes down to the wholesaler or brewery absorbing that price rise out of their profits, again to hit a price point or compete with a similar product. It's all a bit stupid.
But no It's not illegal. It's the first time I've heard anyone say it. I'm sure I would have heard something in the trade if there was anything to it.
Your neighbour is a nutter
Cheers mate.
