i went there once, but there was a big sign on the door saying wholesale only - do they actually sell to the public, walking in off the street ?

My 2 cents...
There used to be a place in Balcatta called FJ Sweetman and I got some overlength hex head bolts there! But, I'm talking many moons ago! May heva been taken over, may still be there ...or not! Had a quick squizz in yellowpages and no FJ Sweetman exists. |

For cost effectiveness in regards to non steel fasteners, Stainless is the way to go, it is generally available in 2 grades 304 ss and 316 ss, You can also get some suppliers that can order in some Hight tensile stainless but be prepared to sell your house to be able to afford them. Generally 316 ss has similar tensile strengs to metric Property class 8.8 but it is not the same and is more brittle. I know of some people that have had titanium bolts quoted up for their formula 500 race cars so they can shed a few kilo's and trust me, it was not cost effective. Any of the fastener places that have already been posted will be able to assist in getting hold of these bolts in different metals, however it does depend on who you speak to and what knowledge they have. I couldnt tell you who to speak to as I have been out of the industry for nearly 5 years.
