Oh come on.

AS mentioned, he was past before that - if you want to see cutting corners on the track go back a few weeks and check out the 250 race. Rider's name escapes me at the moment but he cut about 50 feet of track off about 3 laps in a row....

Considering that the corkscrew is BLIND and you can't actually see that part of the corner until you're basically IN it... to claim rossi intentionally ran off the track to gain advantage is pushing it. A lot.

There were lead changes after that in any case.

..I just think it was a reckless manouvre so early on in the race (not that it should matter what stage of the race it's at)

I mean the corkscrew is a dicey piece of racetrack at the best of times.

To stuff it up the inside is one thing and I have no issue wth that either, but it's his run back onto the track (after leaving it cos he fucked it up)where his move has put him into such a position that he has little choice but the almost run his opponent off the track that I take issue with.

I've seen waaaay dodgier moves though...maybe I've just come to expect better from Rossi, especially when his opponent is one with whom he shares a mutual respect, unlike his relationships with Max and Sete.

Yeah, thats the dude, couldn't remember his name...

edit:
As to Rossi's track re-entry.... i think you'll find he travelled in pretty damn near a straight line.

That bit of circuit drops by 15 feet in that chicane (doesn't show on TV very well unless they choose an angle to demonstrate it, but check into it if you don't believe me), so i doubt he had a lot of steering authority to make sudden manouvers with.

My take on it is that he stuffed it up the inside, and simply missed the apex (as in, clipped it too close) to the next chicane. Rider *error* but not malicious. Again, that bit of circuit is also blind - by the time he could see "oh shit i've fucked up" the bike is descending at a rapid rate and he's lost steering authority.

Was he pushing the boundaries? Sure.... tell me both of them weren't for the first 10-15 laps or so...

If you're going to make people do ride-throughs for minor things like that then no one will be willing to push as hard.

Sure, it was early on, but Stoner's track record lately has been to get to the front and simply fuck off. Rossi had to be up there fighting for the lead early or run the risk of stoner disappearing into the distance.

2c.

Couldn't agree more! Thats why it was one of the best races so far, there was some competition!

I like competition....it's a real thrill to see the battle for second place whilst Casey does the business at the front.
