17/18 yr old Guy looking for Work

Hi PSB Members, thought I'd give the young fella a hand in finding either a career or steady employment out in the big wide world, he's been working in the Restuarant game in the kitchen, pissed off with that as they are not smart enought to see he is capable of better than washing dishes, has a good work ethic, yeah I know he's my son, but hey, if he needs his arse kicked he sure as hell gets it here, anyway, enough of the BS part, as usual most young guys of his age are still undicided, but if you have any contacts or suggestions post them, he'll read them and take it from there.

You'd be crazy to not try and get him into a trade these days.

Have discussed electrican, apprenticship, will start to move down that track if he still shows interest, geez there are so many opportunities out there now days he's only got to focus, Thanks for the comment

For any young bloke nowadays, who's even remotely interested in a trade, I'd suggest doing some T.A. work first, and figuring out what they're interested in. I know when I left high school (~4 years ago), I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was just lucky to land in a trade that interested me.

Try approaching some of the larger companies in different fields (Sparky/Mechanical Fitter/Auto Mechanic/Different areas of construction), and get him doing some Trade Assistant work. If he doesn't like what he's doing after a few months, try something completely different.
And then, when he finds something that grabs him, approach the company for some sort of apprenticeship.

Unfortunately, I can't think of any actual job opportunities going, but I'll keep an ear out.

send him to electrical group training to sit their apprentice test and if he passes start and aprenticeship and if he doesnt like it he can leave....my now 20y/o son thanks the day i persuaded (forced) him to ge there. He is now a 4th year appy looking at earning big bucks in the near future and can use his trade anywhere in the world. If i could afford to not work and do an adult sparky apprenticeship i would

I am almost always capable of providing work in IT if he ever decides to go down that route. Experience is not completely necessary ... as long as he can count past 5 (and even that has been overlooked in the past).

If he wants to have a look at a mechanical trade I have a workshop in Wangara, he would be more than welcome to come down and have a look or a chat. I also have 2 friends with thier own electrical buisnesses dealing with commercal work and automation.

this is a good idea i have just finished with EGT. was slow at beginning. but if you know where your heading its good.
Can earn big bucks as apprentice these days. just gotta know where to go.
EGT is good as you can jump around to different companies. i worked with about 5 companies through my app. you can see all the different areas of the trade. and then figure out where you wanna be at the end.

If he's willing to work shift/nightshift in a mineral processing plant, send me a PM and I'll give you some details on who he can get in touch with.

My work has a pilot campaign starting on the 19th of May (monday week) which runs until early August, and they're likely to be short of plant operators. Pay is flat rate though, but pretty good for someone 17-18, somewhere around $24/hr.

Between campaigns can be hit-and-miss as to whether or not they've got work for him, but certainly a good way to get some cash under his belt while he makes up his mind.
