I worked as a scrutineer for the '93 federal election. It was hillarious looking at some of the ballot papers.

One had a huge essay on it in microscopic handwriting, and I'm pretty sure another had a poo stain on it (didn't get close enough to find out)

What do you mean 'allocated'?

If a ballot paper is not filled out correctly - (correct = each number only once, all boxes numbered, etc) - then it is INFORMAL and not counted at all.

A DONKEY vote is when someone numbers sequentially from 1 at the top to X at the bottom, and is still counted.

If you don't want to vote for anyone, but don't want to be fined, vote INFORMAL. Don't number the boxes, and do whatever hilarious shit you can think of for the amusement of the counters and scrutineers.
