RGV swingarm and rear shock arrangement?

Looking for a little favour, if anyone has a spare few minutes, an RGV250 and a digital camera i was hoping they could take a photo of arrangement of their rear shock and swingarm.

In particular i am interested in:
1. The alignment of the bottom rear shock knuckle
2. The clearance between the rear shock and swingarm

cheers,

g

Will try and get some pics tonight (camera not good in the dark)

I can also take photo(s) of a bare frame, and an assembled bike...

thanks mate

ritza has determined that the knuckle needs to be fairly flat when the swingarm is at its maximum extension ie: unloaded. Note that as the knuckle rotates when the rear shock is compressed, it will also move in the horizontal as per the arc drawn by the radius of the dogbones.

to achieve this he has raised the mount where the top of the shock bolts into the frame. i am trying to see if there is room for me to bodgy it by only shifting the bottom mounting location and lengthening the dogbones (the bits that connect the swingarm to the middle pivot point on the knuckle).

The geometry is actually a bit difficult for me to visualise, i think i have my head wrapped around it now after sleeping on it. Some photos of how Suzuki actually fit this arrangement would be very helpful

if i can see a photo of the unloaded geometry, i can load it into CAD and extract the angles and compare to mine. That plus the clearance between the shock and the swingarm will let me check any calcs i make (or let me just do it, without having to test out my fading trig).

^^ where abouts are you?

If you like, i'll bring the RGV to scarbs tomorrow night and you can check it out in person if you're there?

edit:
Also, i believe there's an RGV service manual downloadable off the net somewhere (has frame/swingarm/etc diagrams). I may even be able to help you out in that regard (not sure if i still have it or not).

heh yep. its still going *sigh* but i am really only waiting for my offset sprocket to arrive and for the dude at Alyz engineering to come back from holidays now

thanks Lee, that first photo that shows the alignment and the clearance is exactly what i was looking for

Mike had already explained it to me.. because the clearance is quite tight the knuckle needs to be aligned parallel to horizontal- so it cannot swivel the shock backwards and hit the swingarm. However there is a clearance of a few mm, so i think it is possible to rotate that knuckle clockwise a little without smacking the shock on the swingarm.

edit: actually its not parallel to horizontal but rather parallel to the plane the shock is compressing in. thats exactly what i wanted to know

wasnt the reason you raised the top mounting position of the rear shock, to correct the alignment of the bottom knuckle?

no the reason i altered the shock mount was to fit the rgv shock in as its 35mm or so longer than the rz and 10 years newer in techanolalgy . and i think the rz one is too wide to fit the swinger....mike

did you retain the original RGV dogbone links Mike?

yes , i wanted all factory parts ....and if i needed to change the ride height i would make new ones, rather than change the knuckle geometry
