Thanks all. I'm pretty happy with her. Wouldn't take much to restore, but i think for now I'll get a few things sorted out and simply enjoy her

I too would like to acknowledge the fact that mere words are unable to convey my utter distaste for Lee...

Kawasaki want $350 for the regulator. I LOLed.
2 wheel wreckers want $120 for a second hand one. I LOLed.
Got a brand new one coming from a UK supplier recommended by the kr-1s forum, $160. Hopefully won't be too far off.

Spare parts esp for 2 strokes are becoming Big Bikkies.
Just received my seals/bearings, conrods for the RG500 and just for these parts $1400!
This is just to have a decent crank, the rest of the parts just for the engine like 4 pistons/rings/gaskets etc was another $2700.
Then the bill for putting the crank together and the rest of the engine/bike/ painting, bits and bobs and one is looking at a serious amount for just a second hand bike.
This is what people have to understand when some one with one of these wants propper money for them restored.

I will blow the trumpet of this website yet again: JP-parts Mail order
If you're resourceful and can get hold of part numbers, submit the quote for what you want, pay by paypal and it's shipped straight from japan. Prices I've had quoted for brand new genuine parts were about half what the local dealer said.
I've never asked them for 2-stroke bits though...

Thats a great buy for 2k, sold mine a couple of years ago white one slightly better nick for 4k. May be worth checking the servo for the power valves if youve had regulator problems it could have damaged the unit, also the valves and seals linkages etc only last about 12k before they wear and need replacing. Might also be worth dropping the stator wheel off to check for wear on the stator wiring loom... another fairly common problem. Check Small Coil Rewinds based in Geelong for any stator issues, they are one of the few places that can rewind them successfully.

New regulator fitted
New battery fitted
Brake light sorted... turns out it was just a globe
Airbox very dirty, so will remove and clean.
Tested the powervalve motor - works when I apply 12V but not when plugged into the loom. Still investigating, manual suggests the CDI as a possible cause. Powervalves are not siezed though which is a relief.
More to do this weekend!

Last night I installed the new temperature sender on the kr1s. As this meant I had to drop the coolant I decided to give the overflow bottle/lines a clean as well.
The coolant in the radiator looked fine... I thought this would be a walk in the park right up until the point that I looked at the overflow bottle/lines. The overflow bottle had some sort of black residue lining the walls that wouldn't move, even when sprayed with solvents like contact cleaner and brake cleaner. I soaked it in brake cleaner but still nothing. Eventually I used a bottle brush which got everything moving after a while. I think I spent about an hour getting everything as clean as I could.
With the overflow bottle/lines cleaned I filled up the cooling system with the rgvlee coolant filler. Works a treat! I can regulate the filling to avoid air bubbles in the system. Whilst filling I can go off and do other things for what is normally a painfully slow and boring process.
Hmmmmm. Blocked.
Cleaned the coolant reservoir. I should have taken a before shot, it was filthy.
New temperature sender fitted. Looks like it is not in all the way but it seems this is as far as it goes. This is something I will look at again when I pull the head off in the future.
Fitted some bolts to the swing arm. I can now use the rear paddock stand. M12 x 1.25 for those of you playing at home.
Coolant filler. How did I ever do without it.
Started her up, 2nd or 3rd kick she fired into life again. After a few minutes she warmed up and the temperature gauge magically started working I will take her for a road test sometime this week.
