Since I've taken ownership of the bike, over the last 2wks I've noticed that other riders tend to give me a "nod". I thought I was imagining it and again 6-7 riders in different areas of Perth did the same. Is it a sign of respect or that we take our risks out there. Have you noticed, more to the point was It anyone from here

People who ride Jap bikes are pitiful in general, obsessive masturbators specifically, who can't ride their shit bikes properly and should stick to scooters. (The 50cc ones).

except harleys and scooters and hyosungs.
Occasionally I've nodded to a single headlight due to poor visibility only to afterwards realise it was a scooter, I just tuck my tail between my legs, go home and have a shower to get the dirt off, I'm just disgusted at myself. 6 months ago I would nod to Hyo's in case it was Max Power or another guy I know on a Hyo, but these days that's not a problem so fuck'm! I avoid eye contact with Harley riders on principle; especially so if they're patch wearers haha

There is a poll somewhere where I think it was decided a quick salute to the right eyebrow was the way to identify a fellow PSB'er. Can't remember. It may have been a upturned hand moving away from the chin......

So I will soon have a Harley, a ZRX1200R and a 125 Aprilia Scooter in the garage. When do I nod?

I nod at most bikes, NEVER scooters (they're like fat chicks = fun to ride but you wouldn't tell your mates) & harleys cos they're mostly ignorant knobs
can't nod at Ducati riders cos they're usually kneeling down trying to fix it or praying it will start again
I have noticed a lot of riders don't nod back...maybe I'm going too fast to catch the return

If it's got 2 wheels I nod, I don't give a rats arse if the other rider chooses to ignore my acknowledgement, that's entirely their choice!

I've had returned nods from Harley & other cruiser riders, Hyosung riders and exchanged pleaseantries with a Ducati rider at traffic lights!!

Depends on how many bad habits you pick up riding around on your RE. When I went for mine, it was about twice as long as my RE test (was out for about half an hour), but otherwise my only concern was not sitting above the speed limit.

Other than that, it was easier since I'd had so much time on the road, compared to just a few lessons for my RE.

What the F$*K makes all you knobs who refuse to nod a better person than a 16 year old who has been riding on a farm since he was 5 and can now finally get out on 2 wheels instead of being forced by the man to be trapped in a cage.
Why does a guy who has a shoulder injury from his service in 'Nam in 68, rides 365 days and can only ride a cruiser suddenly become less of a brother than some dickhead on a $60k ducati who only rides when it's dry and needs to pose to his mates when they have a latte' at the cafe'.

Do you think these people bleed a different blood than you when they get knocked off by a inattentive texting cager?

Why do you think most riders nod? Is it because they are acknowledging the bond of freedom and the shared risks we face everyday on the road or is it because they are happy the guy watches MotoGP on TiVo, thinks he's Valentino Rossi and could afford to buy a brand name Jap race rep bike like all the other sheep??

Exactly. Every time you refuse to nod back a Harley dumps it's sump and can only be saved by closing your eyes, wishing real hard and repeating "I do believe in fairies" until the fairy walks his bike to the side of the road.

No, this was in Midland this morning. Just looked at me and kept going.
I haven't been riding long and up until recently, didn't really enjoy it at all. I never used to nod for two reasons, I was usually behind Timthepoolman and he got the nod, plus I was scared that if I stopped concentrating on what I was doing to nod, I would have an unpretty road splatting moment.
Now that I am riding on my own, I am more relaxed and loving it...so bring on my nods, dammit!!

I nod to anyone on a bike with gears. No scooters.
So you wouldn't nod at this Aprilia 850 v-Twin because it has no gears, well done for spotting that at 60kph:
81477

But I'm confused as you apparently would halfnod at this Vespa scooter as it does have gears and requires a bike licence.

I'll amend my original to 'if it looks like a bike I'll nod to it'

Also, maybe chill out a bit yeah?

I nod at bikes even when I'm in the car.

You aren't a true bike rider until you've hit your knee on the car door as you take a right hander in the car.

Zoned off while driving once. Saw a gap at traffic lights, splitting thoughts started to transfer from my brain to moving my wheel. Realised what I was doing and stopped myself.

El retardo.

yes, nod to everyone, except harleys and scooters and hyosungs.

Give ducatis a miss too, just in case it's a hyosung.

Nod to Hyosungs. Barfy is jealous because he only rides scooters, probably.

FFFUUU!!!

I've had this happen twicein the last couple of months. Had second degree burns to most of my lower leg and I'd still take that over bad sunburn any day of the week. Drink a fucktonne of water and keep drinking if you're a pansy like me and can't take the itching.

Knew i shouldnt of got a red Hyo lol

Occasionally I've nodded to a single headlight due to poor visibility only to afterwards realise it was a scooter, I just tuck my tail between my legs, go home and have a shower to get the dirt off, I'm just disgusted at myself.
Thats it im going to borrow/find/steal(jkz) a set of dual Buell or yamaha zuma head lights or some form of streetfighter ones. take the Hyo stickers off and and and

Ahh shit it will still be a 250 Hyo :(

I ride a vintage cafe racer and sport bike riders never nod back, it is like they are too stuck up or something... maybe riding a cookie cutter bike that looks the same as 100s of others in perth has that effect on them?

The Missus & I started riding about 99. We bought 2 brand new Black & Chrome CB250's. Rode them for 12m and moved on (got back what we paid for them new). We did loads of country group rides, I was over 110kg. It was the longest 12 of my life.

But Fuck all these wankers laying shit on Hyo's etc. We did the Dead Mans Hand Poker run with 300 Harleys on those little Handa's and the HD riders actually didn't give a fat rats arse what we rode.

I'm slowly starting to realise that more than 3/4 people who buy 600-Litre sports bikes get them so they don't get shit from their shallow mates rather than riding something they really want to ride.

Yeah I felt a little strange when I realised I was waving at David Birney and then I waved at Alwyn Brown and Ashley Currie. When I recognised them, I almost crashed doing the big fist.

and some web hero here is accusing me of "lacking respect" if I don't wave at them. How do I know you are not friending some kidfucker.

I don't wave unless I know who I am saying hello to. Just because someone rides a bike does not mean there is some special bond. What the fuck is that? It is a machine that takes you to places. Special bond? Get off the drugs.

Then there is a keyboard warrior, bibendum, saying "get your head out of your ass people."

The word is ARSE. get it right.

May I present the contrary view. My neck hurts. It has been broken. Nodding hurts. I'll wave in response to some frantically spastically waving hyo rider to be polite by raising a hand on the throttle. Nodding makes a crunchey feeling in my neck. If I stop at lights I'll say "hello. Nice bike" or some shit even to a hyo.

and now I have keyboard warriors insulting me because I don't suck their thobbing bit when I ride past.

Go wave at a pig.

- I had to Google some of those names. Sorry.
- Ass - African wild ass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Wild_Ass) , But then I don't want to be a pedant...
- I wave at Pigs. I ride with a few. They know who they are.
- So at first you take issue with waving as you don't who it is but then you also happily return a wave from Hyo riders... I'm confused.
- Not a keyboard warrior, just a forum member. Will happily state the exact same thing to someone at the end of a ride over a coffee. It's my opinion, your welcome to your own. You seem to have read between the lines somewhere that I have an issue with any rider who outright does not nod/wave/fingerlift (all the same thing). Not sure where you got that. I have a problem with riders who wave at an R1 but not a Vespa, will nod at a Buell but not a Harley. Am I less deserving if I'm on my Electra Glide, My ZRX or my Aprilia Scoot?

- and the word is THROBBING. Get it right!

Sorry if you were personally offended. I would take it back if I could but the post has a few likes, so I'm a bit happy with it being there......

haha, never personally offended. You and I are creating a bike culture. Mine does not want riders intimidated into waving at each other like goons. Personal choice.

Think about this thread. When some Kunt is posting memes dissing non 'wave people", what am I going to do. Not respond?

What are you going to do? Make your position a little clearer than to call people like me, "assholes".

You seriously didn't expect no response.

Yeah, I'm a jester but I love free discussion. I think part of the discussion is about how we present to other riders. Me? each to their own.

From a prior post, here is the point:

People tend not to take kindly to opinions that are judgemental and pretentious. There's a fine but distinct line between "I do" and "I do and anyone who doesn't is a cunt because everyone should".

As for me, I nod to people I pass in the street if we happen to make eye-contact, as a simple acknowledgement. Nodding to riders is just an extension of that, plus no matter how much of a cunt they might be, they ride and there's a fair chance it's for similar reasons to me and feel similar things that I do when riding. That's all I can presume about them and it's all I'm interested in at that stage.

It human nature to communicate and socialise. Nodding is just an extension of this.
