i just had to share the new chev ssr ute (http://www.chevrolet.com/ssr/photogallery/) with everyone. saw these suckers coupla weeks ago in the u.s., and instantly wanted one. 400hp v8 manual or 395hp auto, 20inch rears, 19 inch fronts, and they're convertible. didn't actually know any of that till i found the website, but now i want one even more. and yours from only US$39,890 (or $372,561.27 in oz money, damn that exchange rate). hoping they bring em into oz

2006 and they are making a sports/custom ute like this still with a full chassis and live axle?

Looks like a cross between an old chevy/FJ ute & a new VW beetle. Not sure if I like it, but it would've been nice if they decided to make the rear taillights a little more retro and maybe add a few other retro styling cues. Can't have everything I guess.

they get so many good things that we never get. like the toyota tundra, basically an oversize hilux with a v8 in it. and a sports range rover which is slammed on the deck, and supercharged...outta the showroom

I dont like it much but I guess at least they are unique.

They have been around for years (since 2003 I think)..... the concept was shown 5-6 years ago.

You can get them cheap in the US secondhand (USD $25,000 / AUD $34,000 upwards) for an 03'..... but it would cost you shipping + $30,000 to convert to RHD probably. I'd rather have a C5 Corvette any day.

The 2005 onwards models are better because they get the LS2 6.0 (same as VZ HSV's) and better trans. The 03-04 only had a 5.3.

Their cars are so cheap..... new Pontiac GTO's (Holden Monaro) for low AUD $40K's. Corvettes for AU $60,000... if they actually made them in RHD they would no doubt cost $100K here. The 505hp 7L Corvette Z06 is only AUD $90,000.

my mate in l.a. bought a brand new ford explorer, leather seats, satellite navigation, all the fruit really. here it'd be about $60-70k, he got it for $30k. and at only 2% interest

back to the ssr, i guess it's a love it or hate it thing, with me it was instant hard-on.

Gee-Emm.

Rick, They are vheap to buy , but insurance and road taxing there sucks arse , and i would rather pay more in fuel here than what they do. I did some part time work in Miami , and to get to work each day , one way cost me $4.50 in tool booths.

There are already some over here. I did see one parked out the front of a carwash place near my house in 2004 when I was living in Melbourne. Have seen some advertised in Unique Cars.
