For your consideration: A new game we can play - "80's Spotto"

The way you play is, every time you see Ilbuono mention "The 80's," you quote it in this thread. Should be entertaining.

I think the penalties are much harsher from the the early eighties on victoria has been hammering drink driving and speeding starting with tapes on the roads, we have the softest penalties for speeding in australia in wa except for the nt.

You don't know what you missed out on busa steve having ridden or owned all the big bikes from 1973 to now i still reckon the 1971 to 1985 motorcycles were harder to fast i ride these new thousands and all the work is done for you.
You should try a 1978 kawasaki ZIR with a full 1275 yoshimura kit and 33mm oval bores and around 145 hp and see how easy that is to throw around i meet very who have these day's although yet nearly all i talk to would love to try.
They were probably the most powerful ill handling motorcycle from kawaski in 1978.

This post belongs here in yada yada spot the eighties thread.

They say:
90 hp (67 kW) (claimed) @ 8,000 rpm
Or are you claiming an extra 60% power from an extra 275cc?

You say:

They were probably the most powerful ill handling motorcycle from kawaski in 1978.

They say:
They criticized among other things such as the poor engine performance.
The Z1R was introduced in 1978, the same year as the Yamaha XS11, the Suzuki GS1000, and the Honda CBX. Magazine tests showed all three competing bikes to be quicker in the quarter mile.

You are correct on the three bikes almost the Z1R was brought out in 1977 i had the xs 1.1 and a 1978 gs1000 the one with the bar in the tank and rode the cbx for a while all back then now google powerflow kawasakis around 1980 australia and find the hp figures for a full yoshimura 1275 cc with a welded crank extensive head work and cams and a yoshi pipe with mikuni 33 mm oval bores then get back to me you have google i was actually there in the era 70's -80's.

I was there with the money to buy and have these bikes built, don't rely on google totally i have found them to be incorrect on max hp figures for lots of bikes i also have the original sales pamplets for most bikes from back then.

Here is the bike pre yoshimura what carbies are they.

https://i.imgur.com/fJZlL0V.jpg

As to the claimed extra power it is true i had chris mideltons first drag motor in my 1973 kawasaki Z1-A 900 making more hp still with over 1275 cc around 1340 cc running 10.2 sec quarter mile times at ravenswood in the seventies only one tenth of a second slower than a 2017 suzuki gsxr 1000.
This easily verifiable from the ravenswood historic records.

So I should only trust the figures from google if they agree with your memory then? Seems legit.

Their figures for the gs 750, gs850, gs1000 don't tally with the brochures nor do their figures for a honda boldor cb 900f their claim for the Z1R is correct 90 hp however.
So your saying you were around back then and either owned or rode these bikes i take it.

Put it this way if you were around back then and know your way around these bikes i will respect that but if you are just making google educated guesses why bother i could put a thousand photographs up of these bikes with me in the picture and you still would disagree tell me there not mine etc.

Without googling you still haven't answered the simplest question of all what are the carbies on my Z1R in the picture and also the pods.

Note the date learn to read Wikipedia facts better next time you google a bike.

History Edit
Following the success of the Z 1000, Kawasaki developed the "Z1-R" as a new top model motorcycle that would set standards in design and performance. This emphasizes motorcycle with a fixed half-shell lining was only available with a metallic silver-blue paint. Although the design was well received from the potential buyers, sales remained unsatisfactory after tests in motorcycle magazines. They criticized among other things such as the poor engine performance and the small fuel tank.[2]

The readers of the Motorrad (magazine) selected at the end of the year 1977 the Z 1 R to Motorcycle of the Year .[2]

Here endeth the lesson.

Not saying this latest idiot is not him, certainly looking that way. The only way to prove it is a face to face meet.

Been there done that and that's not without its risks. Slander on other forums is bad enough but Stalker Boy is still buzzing my local haunts and when he sees me makes his presence known.

Last month he rode up beside our cafe table delivering a dose of the hairy eyeball. We be nonplussed but good brekky conversation ensued when he finally realised he's being totally ignored and left.

Yeah I wasnít going to entertain any similarity between the two, other than some love affair with out dated machinery.

One can handle banter, criticism and also throw it back with some wit and intelligence.

And thatís the major difference as Ilbouno has yet to exhibit any form of intelligence that could outwit a juvenile stroke victim with a fondness of drinking lead based paints.
