Aus Gov Recall site here (http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recall_detail.php?Recall_ID_Auto=14475)

ROFL :teehee:

Now, I would hope most new R6 owners got informed under their warranty registration, but for us people who own bikes that are screwed together properly at the factory, I thought we could have a bit of a laugh

Oh and this is not casting stones from a glass house (http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recall_detail.php?Recall_ID_Auto=14475) as it took over a year to show up, and wasnt something as simple as doing up a screw properly :) , plus its on 2003 models.

Defect Details: The air filter mounting screw/s may come out and lodge in the throttle valve. If this happens the vehicle does not reduce engine speed  :bomb_ie:

BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAhHAHaaaaa.....

Hang on....

Im buying a new Yammy on Saturday  ummmm..........

I'm sorry officer, it appears my throttle got stuck wide open. I was just on my way to the yamaha dealer to have the bike fixed so it doesn't happen.

Well I guess there's no point recalling something that was just one big <strike>defect</strike> mistake right from the start.

Recalls are not always for huge issues, and a manufacturer that does a recall when not just for outright safety shouldn't be criticised for it.. But that said, this one is a nasty one. New technology never really used before in the R6 so no huge surprise everything was not 100% first time out, but of course it would have been nice for the problem not to be one with such huge consequences. Probably happened once somewhere in the world thus the recall but I am sure if it was common we would have heard about it well before this.

I don't know why people view recalls as a sign of poor quality or make such a big noise about it. Every brand out there has had a recall for something if you have a look. Its better the manufacturer has a recall for something that 'may' go wrong than have it swept under the carpet like Mitsubishi was busted for several times (and probably still do) with internally known issues.

Occasionally there are recalls listed that just say what the fault is without saying the brand/model. This way they dont show up by search until you click on the link to see what it is for.

Eg. Rear Shock Absorbers (Insteasd of vehicle make and or model)

Product Make: BMW
Product Model: E60, 61, 63, 64, 65, 66 (BMW 5, 6, 7 Series variants)
Model Years From: 09.01.2006 to 26.04.2006
Defect Details: The lower rubber mounts may come loose from the rear shock absorbers. If this occurs , wheel guidance would be lost and, depending on the driving situation, it may no longer be possible to control the vehicle safely.

Current model BMW's.... didn't hear about that one all over the news unlike the VE Commodore recalls which were highly publicised. There are even recalls for Lamborghini and Bentley ;)

Some people take the internet waayyy too seriously :teehee:

And yeh, most of those honda ones are from the clowns in the cage factories. The only recent bike ones were for the lardwing and the 50cc chinese built scooters :P

And $50 for the first person to youtube a conversation with the constabularly that uses the "Throttle screw fell out and jammed my throttle open officer" excuse

There was that huge debacle with a fault that led to vehicles catching on fire, the manufacturers feeling that it would be more cost effective to be sued if the fault ever occurred than to recall...

Pioneer car audio amplifiers did that a few years back...
All recalled as they were known to catch fire

Gotta love that quality

Bah, just something to do with cracks in appearing in the swingarm on 2004 model bikes.

Nothing like sprocket studs unwinding and chewing trough swingarms...

Good point shrike, but we all know that harleys are 99% marketing 1% engineering. Brakes not working, oh thats a new design feature, bike rattles to peices, Hey its for the "enthusiast" market they are designed to give them something to fix etc etc :P

That's cool, but it's not really fair to compare a search for Kawasaki on the same site - because those Dog and Lemon Japanese Vehicle Recalls (http://dogandlemon.com/site/japanese-vehicle-recalls/) are specifically for the four-wheeled variety.

True, it says 'Vehicle' not 'Car'. Nor do they mention boat or train recalls. Or rocketships, do the Japanese make rocketships yet? Anyway, I don't think Kawasaki ever made a car ... but Honda have turned out a few. So looking at the dog and lemon car recalls db is a bit of a cheeky statistic to use.

If you're looking for info on your Japanese car / truck / van / SUV, there's hardly a better place, and they have some classic reviews on the site too :)

Hope that helps :)
