Anyone heard some details on the Wakefield pile-up yesterday? Apparently in the first race a bike stalled on the third grid-row causing a massive stack of bikes, a few airlifted riders, and 2 hour clean up... hopefully no fatalities.

I've done some web site searches but can't find any details...

You've probably already checked this website, but if not - it has a news article. Doesn't really give any more info than yourself though.

Brief Report On Sundays Wakefield Park Crash Incident

Suppoesedly yesterday wasn’t a very good day at race circuits around Australia according to the Sydney Morning Herald website. A driver was killed while practicing at a track somewhere near Tamworth and there was a serious crash at Wakefield Park at the first Bankstown Wiley Park Motorcycle Club meeting of the year. The incident happened at the start of the first race of the day, a combined 125GP, Supermotard and 400 race, when a rider on the third row stalled which caused a concertina style crash with number of riders running in to each other from behind as the large field left the line. It took two hours to clear the scene and get the days racing back on track. There were a number of other accidents on the day that caused further delays.
Exerts from the Sydney Morning Herald story are as follows.

“Earlier today, four motorcyclists were injured during the first race of the day at Wakefield Park motor racing circuit in Goulburn.

The crash occurred as 40 motorcyclists jostled for position at the starting line just after 10am.

One of the bikes had mechanical problems and several others ploughed into it from behind, police said.

A 17-year-old youth suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Canberra Hospital, an ambulance spokesman said.

Another man, 25, was flown to Liverpool Hospital with a leg fracture.

Two other men, aged 43 and 44, suffered minor bruising, emergency services said.”
