So I get home today and my housemate pulls out this little gem:

http://www.bur.st/~aek/death_threats/IMG_3729.jpg

It seems to be actually directed at us because it mentions two things reasonably unique to our block (unless I'm clutching at straws).

Anyone seen anything like this before?

That shit is bizzare.
Did your neighbours get one?

It doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me, but I haven't been smoking crack like the authors of that letter.

Call a different Station - what a f*cked response to get from them about an obviously aggressive letter.

Was the letter an 'original' or a photocopy?

Well to add some points of interest:

'PAINT WAS FIRST'

One of the cars out the front of the house was covered in green paint recently.

'LONG WHITE HAIR OR WALKING STICK'

This accurately describes two of our neighbours.

Anyway, I've taken it to the police station and they've taken my details. But it doesn't look like there's a lot they can do.

So that roughly translates into "You know a girl you must force into a relationship/marriage etc with XX person, this girl studies at ECU and WAAPA (thats a big tip off right there, WAAPA is insanely hard to get into and does not take a lot of students) If you don't something bad is going to happen". Well you already know that they are stupid, have no literacy skills and have an earing in their or their friends ear. I would be a little bit affronted, but think, no matter how many friends they have. Imagine the response if you posted COME HELP HERE xxxxx on this forum.

wat makes you think that the person that wrote this is stupid, i would say they could be quite smart, writing like would be hard to track down the person who did it, so if its a mate, thats pretty funny but if not id keep a baseball bat handy heh.

Trying to figure out what language in its handwritten form doesn't have any curves in it normally?

seems a weird form of text, kept looking at it and there doesn't seem to be any real curves anywhere.

That's just feckin weird. Looks like it's purposely been written badly to me, another tactic used along side paper clippings perhaps ? Dunno, but I once received a fake bomb complete with LED countdown display on my doorstep.

Anyhow, you did the right thing, reported it, but my money is on a prank.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay, Red Rooster had to buzz my mobile, as I've been off-forum for a while... Ok - this kind of thing is my bread and butter. I hate to think how many of these sort of things I've looked at before - some more amusing than others.

First things first - you did the right thing handing it into a station. Do me a favour and email me either the I/R number, or the name of the guy handling the inquiry ( justin.watts@police.wa.gov.au). I'll make sure it makes it into Forensic and gets looked at, probably by me.

Secondly - as someone mentioned - this letter has been written in an effective disguise. There is no way to identify the author based on the handwriting, or the spelling/terminology. They do have a twisted sense of humour, but so do most on this website..........

Thirdly - this letter WAS WRITTEN BY SOMEONE WITH TIME ON THEIR HANDS. That could be cause for concern. Kids do the odd prank letter, but wouldn't spend more than a couple of minutes on it. If they are happy to spent time on a letter like this, they may be happy to spend time doing other things........ Have a word with your neighbours, and just be a bit more vigilant than normal.

I will be recommending it be treated for fingerprints. Despite what some coppers think, it doesn't matter how many people have handled it - you could still get lucky and get the offender's prints on it (if they are in the system), and not obscured by someone else's prints.

If it is an original letter, it might provide more evidence than a photocopied letter. All you CSI buffs would know this already, but might be of interest for others out there.... We have a device that enhances impressions in paper. Everyone knows that when you write with a second piece of paper beneath, you can see the impressions in the page below. What some don't know is we can enhance those impressions, even when it doesn't look like impressions are there - for around five pages down. Of course, impressions are only useful if they've written something that identifies them... But it can (and has) resulted in a number of arrests where the baddie would have avoided detection otherwise.

The other problem, is of course, that if this letter isn't actually intended for you, or is mistakenly for you, you've got no idea who might have sent it and that makes it hard to investigate through other usual means.

Do us a favour - for the next few weeks check your mail wearing some gloves (your bike ones will do). If you get another letter, put it in a plastic bag and drop it off at the station. Tell the copper it hasn't been handled, and provide the first I/R number so they'll be linked.

If you have any other queries, get back to me. I'll watch this forum for a while in case anyone else has some queries.

Good luck.

It seems a couple of these letters have been handed in so that means we're not a specific target. Which is of some comfort. I just hope that if it's a joke it has a really funny punchline
