    New guy from Scotland

    Hey guys,

I'm Matt, nice to meet you all! Due to move over to Perth on the 29th of next month so looking to get out and about and enjoy some decent weather for a change!

I've only just passed my test in the UK for my full licence so I'm hoping I don't run into any issues as soon as I arrive. Been reading online and it looks like it should be a straight swap.. whether or not there'll be an issue with the fact I've just got it I don't really know, I've heard all about the LAMS

I'll be staying with my bro in Como, hoping to get myself a bike as soon as I arrive and get out on the road. I tried to buy a 2012 GSXR-600 through a dealer and have it waiting for me but apparently it needs to be registered to a WA address.. which I don't have proof of yet!

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you lot.

    Matt

Best I can do to describe the issue is this.
Normally it goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, shift, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

But now it's a bit more like this
    BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-R-R-r-r-r-r-r-, shift

Thanks mate. And trust me, when you've grown up where I have the idea of moving to Australia and getting your first bike gives you a lot to be keen about!

    Welcome, Matt!

I don't think you will have any worries transferring your full licence.

Como is a great area, nice and central. You will love it. The only issue might be storage for your bike.

As for the weather, it's been terrible the last few days. So hopefully it improves by the time you get here.

    Cheers
    Ben

Whereabouts from Scotland are you from?

I'd shop around for a bike when you get here, rather than try mess about online without seeing/riding first...!

Welcome to PSB and Australia... You'll find the weather brilliant, as as long as you are willing to ride a few straight roads, there can be some great rides within 30 minutes of the city.

Cheers Ben. Yeah I've been out to stay with my brother a few times already, Como seems great. He's got a garage so thankfully no storage issue.

Surely they can't be much lower than our 60/70? I do a lot of flying for work.. think this trip will be a lot more satisfying for some reason

My wife lived in Alford for many years, before we got together, and I have spent many a Christmas Holiday up there. Lovely part of the world.

I am afraid the roads over here aren't as bike-friendly as the ones you are used to, but the weather is a hell of a lot better.

I won't disappoint you, you can find out about the speed limits yourself. Lots of cameras here too. I have had many more points on my licence here than I did back in the UK.

One thing to watch for when you transfer your licence. They missed my full motorcycle licence and it was only because I noticed it before it was finalised that they added it in. If they hadn't I would have had to go back to Ls again.

    Welcome to Perth and PSB.

No way, I learned to ski in Alford when I was at school.

Thanks for the heads up and the welcome!

The wifey needs the support structure of family and friends now that she's Preggo. I can't provide that when I'm at work, so we heading back...
Also need to finalise her UK passport stuff, so gonna be there for a couple of years...

Already got my eye on a gsxs yoshimura special from cupars in Fife, and there something great routes posted up on motorcycle-scotland.co.uk

Glasgow is a great place and if our visas for Oz hadn't come through we might even have ended up there. My Bro in law lives there too. But I would really struggle to move from the climate in WA to a place where it rains 2 days out of 3. Undoubtedly we would adapt to it but just the thought of it. My father in law lives just up the road in the Scottish Perth and has just bought a new Street Triple RS, but it will be laid up for about 6 months during the winter. It is such a waste.
