    Husqvarna Nuda 900R

Who's a lucky boy? A mate of mine, who is a dead set legend, went to Europe for a month and left me his 900R Nuda. He gave it to me for a weekend once and I made him an offer to buy it on the spot but he's not parting with it. This thing is a blast to ride and IMHO is one of the best looking designs for years. Too bad that they are so rare or I'd have one of my own. It has a lot of fruit on it already but I've got to think of something else I can get for it/him as a thank you.

Anyone want to go ride bikes?

The Nuda dates from when BMW owned Husqvarna and was sold in 2012 and 2013.

Price rorting for parts for these bikes is extreme. BMW are officially fuckwits. Examples (all pricing is in $A):

    Headlight - Australia: $757
    Headlight - Europe: $439

Front Brake Lever - Australia: $230 (same as upper end Ducatis. Paid $A38 for a lever on eBay US.)
Front Brake Lever - Europe: $107

    Front Axle - Australia: $244
    Front Axle - Europe: $120

Red side plastic - Australia: $328
Red side plastic - Europe: $161

Triple clamps - Australia (the pair): $1,053
Triple clamps - Europe (the pair): $580

Don't forget that European pricing contains around 20% VAT (depending on the country), compared to Australia's 10% GST.

The Nuda is the abandoned step-child. There are lots of BMW parts on it so that creates licencing nightmares for KTM (which doesn't really want to know about it).

Notice that nice banana-shaped curve in the RH fork leg?

Took me ages to get the front wheel off because the axle was so bent. Had to remove wheel and forks together.

    Useless information:

The 900R has the adjustable forks, whereas the 900 has non-adjustable forks. Ok, so I found some brand new non-adjustable forks in Poland for an ok price. Might as well buy them and transfer my adjustable cartridges over, right?

The fork foot on the standard 900:

The fork foot on the 900R (ie adjuster on the fork foot):

So, stuff that... let's go find something off another bike that I can use. Might as well grab something in the US from a Ducati Hypermotard, right? Well, they use forks that aren't all that good, and have 43mm chrome sliders instead of the Nuda's 48m sliders. Which means it gets real messy trying to fit the Nuda fork feet to the Hypermotard forks. You also need the Nuda feet for the ABS cable mounting. Lovely fun.

Apparently the Nuda is so damn good that even the front brake lever gets an erection:

That little broken bolt that attaches the foot to the fork cartridge - the local price just for that bolt is $45.60. For one f**king bolt.

I need to replace the front axle, and I'm pretty sure that it's the same as the BMW HP2 axle. If so then I'll get a secondhand one from the US.

I still can't find another bike that uses the same rear brake lever. Mine's bent and can be straightened, but I'd rather see it replaced.

I figured that with enough looking around I'd find something that at least uses the same Sachs chrome sliders and outer tubes. Grab those, transfer the cartridges and I'd be set. Nup, can't find anything compatible.

Trying to find a replacement for each damaged part takes hours and hours. BMW made sure that there's nothing anywhere to identify which Nuda parts were also used on BMWs. Wankers.

My wheels will get repaired, but I eventually figured out that BMW F800R wheels are the same.

The trick to finding parts is to find something that was on a bike that was sold in the US. The Yanks love a) tinkering with stuff, and b) selling things piece by piece (ie parting a bike out). Wrecking bikes and cars is a massive thing in the US. However, as the bike was never sold in the US, I don't have that potential parts supply or source of knowledge.

There are two Nuda forums, but are both inactive these days so new questions don't get answered (ie fork options). There's one German forum, a French one and an Italian one. Unfortunately, Google doesn't translate them properly.

Yeah... I've been taking photos, making notes, etc... I'll start a proper build thread in a few weeks, once I've got a few things done.

Nup, keeping the SXV. That one stays forever.

Besides, trying to find stuff for the Nuda makes the SXV seem like a mainstream Japanese bike in comparison.

if I end up keeping the Nuda then one of its purposes will be to help make the SXV last longer.

And, keeping a German bike and an Italian bike side by side... what could go wrong?
