    F1 2018 Season

So the new season is here, the teams will be rapidly approaching finishing their entries for the year and getting them ready for testing, the driver market has been pretty quiet, a couple of team name changes with one more to come as well.

Confirmed driver lineups/race numbers (new/changes = red) and team name changes (blue), per GPUpdate (04/01/2018):

    Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport
    44. L. Hamilton
    77. V. Bottas

    Scuderia Ferrari
    5. S. Vettel
    7. K. Räikkönen

    Aston Martin Red Bull Racing
    3. D. Ricciardo
    33. M. Verstappen

    Force India F1 Team
    11. S. Pérez
    31. E. Ocon

    Williams Martini Racing
    18. L. Stroll
    # - TBA Sergey Sirotkin

    Scuderia Toro Rosso Honda
    10. P. Gasly
    28. B. Hartley

    Renault Sport Formula One Team
    27. N. Hülkenberg
    55. C. Sainz - on loan from RBR as part of the McLaren "gaining" Renault donks

    Haas F1 Team
    8. R. Grosjean
    20. K. Magnussen

    McLaren Formula 1 Team*
    2. S. Vandoorne
    14. F. Alonso
*No word if they will add Renault to the name or not yet

    Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team
    9. M. Ericsson
    16. C. Leclerc

The kiwis will have a bit to cheer on, Brendon Hartley has been made permanent at Toro Rosso, I reckon there will be a good battle between him and Gasly, ultimately it will be for stone motherless last as they are now using Honda "engines"

Sauber have pulled a fast one on everyone and shown off their livery for the season, this was prior to christmas and around the time that they'd confirmed LeClerc :

    Car Launch Dates :

    Confirmed :

    Ferrari 22-February

    Rest are a TBA

I hope Red Bull engines will be closer to Merc and Ferrari this year.... Hoping for Daniel to have more podiums this year and about 4-5 wins.

I'm hoping regardless of who wins the season is at least entertaining.

Same here, but reliability is going to be at a premium this year, with each driver limited to three engines, it is going to be a difficult season for Toro Rosso if Honda cant get their shit together. Sauber should be up and about in the midfield again - they're getting current spec engines under a new deal with Ferrari

Same, if Bottas can step his game up and get closer to Lewis - some of that will depend on the car, if it's closer to his style he will get better, the Merc is much more Lewis leaning.

Ferrari? Well we all know that Fettel is #1, Kimi will not have a realistic shot at the title unless something happens to Fettel. They have to be the main threat.

Red Bull/McLaren are a both an outside chance, it really is surprising though, when taking into consideration that the amount of data that Renault get from the teams running their gear, that they haven't been able to get their shit sorted quicker in both power and reliability. I remember Christian Horner pointedly saying in an interview last season, that they'd received a new race fuel from their supplier that gave them a HP boost.

I also forgot to add the tyre changes for this year, 2 new compounds, Superhard and Hypersoft - Orange and Pink respectively all the compounds (except the SH) will be a step softer - Pirelli reckon the compounds for last year were conservative, the Hard remains but becomes "Ice Blue", no changes to inters/wets:

    To quote James Allen :

The target will be to introduce effective degradation that makes the strategic advantages of each tyre clear; what will not be ideal is if all the degradation is thermal and that requires more ‘management’. The risk there, with a parallel reduction to only three engines per driver for the whole F1 season, is that there is too much ‘management’ and not enough of drivers pushing flat out. We have had more of that this year, with the new 2017 specification cars and tyres.

Kinda concerned about the 3 engine rule.

A lot of the top end, if they drop behind the leader after the first couple of laps will get told to just save the engine so they'll cruise along in 2nd or 3rd safe in the knowledge that no-one behind is really going to have enough power given to them to run up behind them and make a pass.

So 2018 I think will be the year of "save the engine", save your tyres, save fuel, and not a whole heap of "go get him".

Mind you, Toro Rosso will be starting from the back with a fresh engine every race after they blow up their 3 in the first 3 races so they might have some fun each race until the engine goes boom.

Other than that, hoping Bottas sticks it to the blessed one and he chucks a sad, that Dans given something half reasonable so he can put Max back in his place and Ocon blows Perez away.

Not real confident we'll see great races (for the reasons above) but being an F1 tragic, I'll be watching every practice, qualy and race anyway.

DB-C50 cant really seeing it happen any other way, unless it comes down to finishing higher in the constructors

TurboR1 same, i think it's here to stay, unless someone picks up some paper or plastic rubbish and crashes due to bad visibility

**Updated first post with a car launch section

Rumours are also getting stronger that Sirotkin is going to be #2 at Williams, BBC and Sky both saying that he was quicker than Kubica at the post season test in Abu Dhabi, plus he will bring in more money. Williams saying that it is not about money - Yeah bloody righto

Interesting pics of the new RBR

    https://www.racefans.net/2018/02/19/...w-f1-car-2018/

Lots of little bits added all over the place but I wouldn’t mind betting some are there just to mess with some other teams heads.

Finally some luck for Dan Ric. Coupled with some great overtaking moves, a well deserved win

Any race where Hamilton isn't on the podium is a good race.

A pity that Verstappen couldn't make his passes clean, a touch more patience considering RBR's huge tyre advantage should have seen them finish 1-2.

Well, to be honest, it's only a marginal reduction in coverage compared to the usual 2 hours of adverts with snippets of an F1 car.
