    600cc series super sports LAMS

I am interested in buying a 600cc super sports bike that I can derestrict after my lams period.
My favourite bike I've found so far is the Yamaha FZ6R.
Before I get my sights set on one bike, what other options are out there in the 600+ range for lams?

FZ6 isn't a supersports. If it is a true supersports (R6, ZX6 etc) you want, none are LAMS approved. Assume you actually mean faired bikes?

Hmm, a quick google shows me that they're being called supersports... That's like calling a Ninja250 a sportsbike cos it has fairings. Calling it a supersports doesnt make it one in the true sense of the word

Yeah that makes sense. Yeah I mean 600cc bikes with fairings. I have the ninja 250 at the moment and love how it looks, my dad has the 650L which is really cool too, I just want to try something else.

Hi, Nosugar, the triumph range possibly could be for you, or the mvs If youd like to flush the wallet out.
Seen a few Street triples around certainly have the look you may what.

Absolutely nothing in terms of supersports but that's already been said so I'm replying for no real reason.

Ninja 650 is alright but looks kinda shitand is a $10k learner bike which makes no sense financially

Buy an actual 600cc supersport and take it out with an escort

Pro tip, look at the hp rating for each bike, and with the ss derating, look at it when restricted, and when it is not restricted.
I have known a few novice riders who thought they could ride the shit out of a 500 4 stroke and its time for a thou,
They were shocked at being shown the figures on a true 600 sports bike puts out,

You won't, IMHO, find a bike that is all things...they don't exist.

Ride the Lams bike you have till you can ride it no-more. Do track riding with it, get your technique sorted...then look at a big bike and start again from scratch, working your way up to the skill-level you have attained on the smaller bike.

Don't be in a rush to get hurt through mixing up ambition and talent.

The question is pretty moot as any bike that is restricted to LAMS specs isn't going to become a SS or full open class bike if de-restricted and you can't restrict a genuine SS or open class bike to do for LAMS so pretty much as Maz said get as decent LAMS bike as you can and ride, ride, ride until you have as much experience as possible and then upgrade

Probably better off sticking with the Ninja, I know its boring but itll teach you way more than a larger bike ever could. If ever you get bored you can always borrow the 650L

If you really want something quicker Id just buy something with the intention of selling it when you get your R class rather than de-restricting it. A derestricted 650 feels nothing like a 600.

Stick with what you have for now, save your coin.

By the time you are on a full license you can get a real sports bike such as a 636, CBR, R6, GSXR etc all of which will kick a derestricted LAMS bike into the weeds. Any of those you can pick up for around $5k (or less) and would be a much smarter choice.

I agree, stick with what you have - that's the sensible choice.

But I also understand the "oh, shiny new bike" thing where sensibilities go out the window. So with the "oh, shiny" thing in mind, if not buying a bigger LAMS bike will eat away at you and won't set you back financially (this is key - in that it won't jeopardise your ability to buy an R class bike when your year is up), then buy the bigger LAMS bike. But only if it doesn't affect your ability to buy an R class bike because you will want one. As said, derestricting a LAMS bike doesn't equal a supersports 600, even if you derestrict a 650 - different engine tuning etc. You shouldn't lose too much on the 2-fiddy if you bought it second hand and shouldn't lose too much on a bigger LAMS bike if you also buy second hand.

Six weeks since his post - the time for advice is past and the time to guess what he did is here.

I'm guessing he still rides the 250.

I reckon OP went the "oh shiny" path because once you start entertaining the idea it's hard to look at your other bike with the same enthusiasm.

lets see what facts we have to point out what this guy is thinking....

as per his previous posts he has recently lost his job and i would guess has a new job now. so clearly wont get a loan with current work history.
he is a cabinet maker. so probly fairly level headed.

first post came across as he has already been looking at 600s and is probly getting an itchy trigger finger.

also has been posting regarding fuel economy.

i think ill side with Loud on this one and also guess still on the baby ninja
