Too late I'm afraid - just moved house - nobody wanted them - so they got left on the verge

Hey Christo hows your project going? I just bought a. 1980 XL500S, it's all there and not knocked around but the engine is tired and electrics disconnected.

Cam you tell me if the headlight works off the battery? I've out a new battery in and tail, stop, neutral, instruments, horn all work.

    Hey Agrid,

Afraid I cannot tell you, as I am using an XL185 harness which has the headlight always on, so mine is different to yours. The headlight only comes on once the motor is running.

It looks exactly the same. My mate who was doing the electrics has gone to live in Qld, so he never finished it!
Tracked down some 6 volt bulbs which should be suitable, as the 2nd 12volt converter does not seem to work!
And he cannot diagnose it over the phone.
Should have it ready in 6 weeks or so.

Turns out the earth wire had burned away inside the plastic headlight bulb holder.

Long story-short. The original cable operated rear brake does not work with the Kawasaki wheel, the cable position is wrong.
So I went to the wreckers and bought a brake rod, bolted it through the foot lever and used a shorter drum lever and it seems to work ok.
One downside is now the kickstart lever interferes with it, so a little more cut n shut is needed.

This is what im looking at doing either building a flat tracker style bike or restoring a old naked gs850g style bike all depends what bike comes along first

Yes it is......well spotted. Had to modify the underside of it slightly to clear the cylinder head.
