I beg to differ, most bar tenders serve the next person based on their arrival at the bar, not "whoever". Unless they are shit, in which case they will not last.

Bar tenders dont have time to watch and keep order, they ask and if your not quick or point to the person next you then thats what goes down.

Well then you're an arsehole if you see someone was waiting and you don't point them out to be served first.

Fuck off dickhead if the bars free then I'm not going to wait behind a group of people talking shit. Everyone else is waiting around the bar but I have to stand behind a group of people because they can't be bothered to take the empty space at the bar

I guess that's part of the issue, so many dickheads hang around the bar without actually buying a drink or get a drink and block the available space
I'll gladly point out someone who I know was there first but if I get asked and don't know I'll just order as I've been there done that in the past and not ordered and then waited an age as the bartender pissed off to another section of bar

Point proven, you seem to lack basic manners and get all salty when reminded of what is just common courtesy.

It's not rocket surgery, notice who appears to be waiting when you walk up, if you get served before them point them out to the bartender or ask them if they are ordering. Simples.

When I did bar work we would start at one end of the bar and work along, as someone left the next would take their place. When you reached the other end of the bar you would return to the start. People would always try and jump in but we would spot them and skip them for a lap.

Sometimes we would divvie the bar up between us and just do that for our "sector".

It is much the same as all services.

Pay attention, have payment ready, and make everyone's experience a bit faster. Shits me when the bartender says $x and the person starts fumbling for a wallet and counting coins.

If I am waiting alongside someone who was there first, a polite point. However, if you have turned around and started chit-chatting, tough shit.

In my former life as someone who hung out at bars circa 2005, if I walked up and was immediately served, yet I knew someone was already waiting, I'd redirect the bartender to that person. I'd also stand and offer my chair to ladies if it got really busy and I had one of the few remaining chairs, young or old, hot or ugly. Actions tended to pay back in dividends, either with a friendly nod or thank you, a chat, and there was one time I gave my seat to a girl and her boyfriend walked off and came back with a fresh beer for me. Stunning how meth has changed the way people in Perth react to kindness. I'm sure if I gave a guys girlfriend/wife my chair now-a-days I'd be glassed and quartered.

Myself and Ms boeman once had a terrified girl in a club try and join us so she could shake off some bloke who wasn't taking no for an answer. Her friends had gone home and presume she was keen on this bloke, which she wasn't.

His words were actually along the lines of threatening to kill me.

You'd think so yes but the standard of bar staff appears to have dropped and a lot appear to have tunnel vision As I said if someone has obviously been waiting I'll point them out but as I mentioned lot of people also hang around the bar as below

100x this. Why do some people seem totally unprepared, and even surprised, for their part of the retail transaction? Does my fucking head in.

If I'm at a bar, the simple act of holding a note or a card makes it pretty clear you are waiting for service and ready to order/pay.

Just wandering what dress codes/standards should be in a 6 star hotel ?
Somehow I don't feel just because you pay to stay , does not give you the right to boardies, singlet and no footwear cashed up bogans ,WTF !
Show some respect and a little class to yourself /partner and others or go and stay at a caravan park .

I imagine each Hotel would have its own set of standards.

Considering Aussies are notorious for ignoring others standards and setting their own, especially if we have paid money, why are you surprised?
