You are absolutely right, there is no place for condescension or smugness when challenging people who label those disagreeing with them as c@nts and consider certain individuals' deaths as worthy of jest and celebration.

I have found an instructional video online and will use it to up my game

    ...

Back on topic: Shooting a job and I put the camera down on a seat in a large concert venue to set up the tripod for a shot of 400 people. I pick up the camera and the strap catches on the arm of the seat (as ALL camera related straps do) which yanks it from my hand and sends it at speed to the only bit of metal in sight. I impulsively punch my other hand out to catch it and hit a tripod collar with my pinky instead - "crack" goes my finger and the front of the lens at the same time.

Result: Broken filter on the lens, the ring of which is jammed onto the front of the lens, and what is likely a broken pinky which I had to gaffer tape to get through the rest of the job. I re-taped it with strapping tape the next morning and it is an interesting shade of blue and made crunching noises when I tried to move it so a boring trip to the doc is in order tomorrow :/ - there is only so far I can go with tape and splints made of bamboo skewers.

Fuck you fucking camera straps, a necessary evil that seem more trouble than help...

Oh, and while I'm at it - fucking internet speeds AND Aus Post are turning out to be slower and less reliable than me WALKING files and prints to local destinations. Australia is becoming a "developing nation" when it comes to basic, essential provision infrastructure.

Maybe you need to listen to the whole Derek and Clive bit again to get some context with a dose of humour - which was the intent. The thing I have a problem with is that you seem to give rampant racism and jokes about dead kids a pass, but take issue with a condescending argumentative style (as opposed to just calling people arseholes, cunts, racist pricks etc) as though THAT is the problem with the debate, rather than the overt vindictiveness, racism, misogyny etc that goes on and on and everyone just seems to shrug off until some "SJWs" (hawk, cough, spit) come along and spoil all the "fun".

I don't seriously expect a genuine discourse with someone like GM and the nasty, petulant shite he posts - so I will poke fun and point out the flaws as I see them in as condescending manner as I see fit because it actually bugs me when that crap goes unchallenged and I try to remain civil in the face of unbridled insults. Sorry if that actually bugs you more than the shit I rail against. Most other people I engage with on a more respectful level depending on past experience with them personally or on the forum/discussion - which was the point I was making about the Pub thread and the discourse between myself and TurboR1 , which was civil and acknowledging points on both sides.

Violent retribution, racism, jokes about dead kids - vs - condescending arguments. Yeah, I can see how those can be equally at fault as the core of the problem.

Is that condescension cubed now ?

Yeah very familiar with D&C. It's of my giggling teen era.

The dead kids. Yeah, well. People can be insensitive sometimes.

Can someone explain to me why the government won't step in with new policies around aged care without a royal commission - which will probably find out what 4 Corners has already found out using only a handful of journalists?

Hey, government: do your fucking job.

Royal Commission = Lots of publicity and outrage from "evidence", leads to very few convictions, big manageable initial cost which dissipates quickly in comparison but good for votes.

New Policies = Increased costs to the public purse, less profit for aged care owners, not good for votes.

edit; I would add that I think the child abuse cover up RC has been helpful for victims/survivors getting some closure. Still $750mil + may have been better spent re-establishing specialised child abuse units that did once exist for a while. But can anyone name a RC aside from the QLD copper one that has resulted in legislative change or meaningful convictions. p.s. I do not count a former premier being Gaoled for stealing a stamp collection from their own party as meaningful from a taxpayer point of view.

Well I wish the Government would stop adding more laws and regulations to try and patch up human kind's failures and attempt to mandate 'goodness'.

Trying to think of a wise and sincere signature quote, but the only words that leap to mind are, "TITTY SPRINKLES"
