Evidently the thread has gone a bit quiet.

Work has been haaaaaaard. My performance review was on Monday and my boss openly let me know that he finds fear to be a great motivator. That was a perfect opportunity for me to correct him and let him know some better ways of working with me.

The body has been failing me. It's slightly older than the GSXR so I guess it's not unreasonable to expect it to need maintenance. I've gone and torn the cartilage in the left hip, so I'll have an operation shortly to make me symmetrical - it was the right hip last year. Honestly I'm pumped that there's a definitive reason for the pain that I've been feeling when sports-ing, and I'm pretty sick of physio! I've torn ankle ligaments and calves, battled shin splints, and been unable to run for months. I can still rollerskate though, which has kept me sane.

And waiting for things. These pistons have taken the best part of 5-6 months to happen. Given the sellers on eBay were indicating 30 days delivered you can see how setting realistic expectations can be important. Thankfully the second seller was very communicative and this helped me to rage less. The CNC triple clamps are still an unknown, luckily I have some others I can use in the meantime. There hasn't been a hurry for the rest, so I've been largely patient (someone on here might not agree!).

The weather has been miserable, cold and bleek, and my mood has been kinda the same. But with it finally feeling like Spring, the pistons arrived and at Ray Easson's and a long weekend ahead, I'm getting fired up to see this thing come together quickly now.

    Ticking along again now

This was waiting on my doorstep when I got home today.

These engines respond really well to timing improvements, so with the adjustable cam sprockets this adjustable ignition unit should have the engine performing nicely.

    From this:

    To this:

Ironic that the KTM rims ended up orange.

The Bridgestone Battlax S21s get great reviews. There's a custom sprocket on the way, some stainless fasteners and trick valve caps.

White lettering the tyres would suit, what do you reckon?

I didn't weigh them so I've just researched it. There's no weight saving, the weight is close enough to identical. These rims are lighter than the later Slingshot and SRAD 17s, which are heavier than the original 18s.

They're also stiffer, with a better choice of rubber

    Woooooot!!!!

Head and barrels, prepared by Ray Easson and ready for painting.

    Sandblasted.

Ready for the low-km cams and no-screw, independent rocker valve train exclusive to the '92 motor.

And the shiny new Stainless Valves that Ray sourced, with some relief of the shrouds and cut-down inlet valve guides.

    Some nice port work here.

    And here.

Should be good for at least an extra 1hp or so

Potato is going to make it pretty, using the ballistics paint I've been sourcing from Australasia Coatings, before I get it finish-baked in an oven at a powder-coaters and then return to Ray for reassembly.

Anyone know a local distributor for Arrowhead starter motors? I'd like to upgrade the 30 year old factory starter so it handles the high compression on cold starts a little easier. And if they do a shiny generator I wouldn't complain either...
