Could always go the whole hog and put 1100cc barrels on the 750cc base. Then bore them 1100cc ones out to 1340cc

True, I could have. But as impressive as it sounds I haven't heard great things about reliability, rideability or durability of the conversions. I reckon the setup I have is going to rock as it is

Perhaps not a great idea on a starter of that age, but the busa guys with overbored and/or high compression engines add a small second battery for 24v starting - the two batteries run in parallel for charging and most of the electrics, except for the starter motor where they're discharged in series.

Also, cold starts will be less of a problem so long as your battery is up to the task. It's hot starts where the starter becomes the limiting factor (hotter starter motor coils = more resistance = lower current flow at a given voltage).

Big thanks to Genie Electrical in Myaree for their efforts in rejuvenating the starter and generator. Apparently they were like new internally, with only new bearings being installed in the genny. They even polished it up - removing the sticker to do so before gluing it back on after. I phoned around Perth, no one else seems to do this type of work anymore.

    Well. Where to begin.

My job was making me miserable - so I resigned. Amusingly that puts me in to the same position as this time last year - unemployed and recovering from hip surgery. What are the chances?!

Time to have a think about what I want to do for work next. The idea of a sea change is pretty appealing. The number of jobs that litter my resume in Financial Planning gives evidence to Financial Services maybe not being for me...

Enough about me, what's happening with the bike, right?

Shiny stuff is happening, although the ballistics paint has made life a little more difficult for potato than I intended. Firstly the Satin Black turned out gloss, so the side cases went Magpul Stealth Grey instead - and look mint as a result!

That cam cover is meant to be orange and shiny, not pastel red and flat. I like the colour and considered keeping it, but was reminded how much of the engine can be seen when I looked at the LTD they have at MotoMax.

Plenty to get on with. Aspirations of having the engine in a rolling frame are high, and Christmas is coming.

Nah, Melbourne was just a serious thought last year. I was considering it because of her, plus roller derby is big over there, but then Splitsville and hip operations and the thought of miserable weather :/ So Gixxer project instead

Thanks for agreeing with me on the red too.

Another creative project? Well, designing my new life of course!

Seriously though, thanks for the moral support mate. Yep, a job will find me - I got offered one on Tuesday with the same company I just resigned from - but it's more about finding/taking one that fits with my personality / doesn't make me actively unhapy.

Life is great. The sun is shining, new parts are arriving at my door, the thought of my job isn't making me feel depressed.

And this morning I got the stitches out of my leg. Just moments of crippling pain running from my neck to my heels to contend with, but I seem to remember having that after my last op too and I'm confident it'll disappear with more activity and physio.

Best of all the bike is coming along

There's stuff with potato, Bravo Resources, Cycle Parts WA, Southside Powdercoaters, on my doorstep, in the air on their way from Denmark, in my car, Advanced Electroplaters, in my workshop, Ray Easson. There's stuff with cadmium plating on it, ballistics paint, clear anodizing, new bearings in it - even a Brembo RCS19 master cylinder. It's going to be epic.

    Picture for today though:

Brand new OEM chain guard and guide as well as a new tail light. Noice!

Great news datsikk, you won't have to look at them once they're covered in carbon, sealed in the engine, inside the frame and fairings They're actually quite smooth and have an excellent reputation, perhaps it's just the light the picture was taken in?

Arrived on Friday Not exactly period, like the Hayabusa unit I purchased, but I thought twice about sacrificing braking capacity for the sake of aesthetics. Which was a tough call!
