    Kawasaki ZXR-750L Rebuild

After the debacle of my last build:

    https://www.perthstreetbikes.com/for...ad.php?t=67776

I vowed i never go through the pain again, but I picked up 94 Kawaka ZXR750 cheap as, so here we go again.

Its done 62,000k's, Its had a low speed drop, so thus the fairing has some deep scratches in it and a dent in the tank. Thus the low purchase price.
So unlike my CB550 cafe racer, this is just a clean up and restore some of her former glory as money allows

Kawasakis should be green not blue so that's going to have to change.
I was told by a fashion nazi that "blue and green should never be seen" so i'm not going back to the stock L model colour scheme. I like 90's endurance racers so i'm heading towards this:

New oil and filter, needs front rubber, clutch leaks, so new clutch release assembly.
    That will do for now.

Next, have a go at fixing the fairings. Lucky it is solid fibreglass, not those cheap plastic ones

So if anyone can offer suggestions, cos ive never done it before. I was going to get some of this stuff:

and have a crack at repairing all the cracks and scratches

    Then paint.

Again if anyone knows a awesome spraypainter in the Midvale or Myaree area let us know, cheers!

after that dunno? powder coat the rims. Maybe a slip on can, wave discs

    any help -

    always appreciated

    v

No expert, but if its a big crack it'll need cutting and patching, small ones just regular bog will do.

    Nice pickup and project.

Paint the rims, don't powdercoat them. And I don't know that wavy discs would look right on a bike of that vintage.

As for painting motorcycle fairings - potato.

I love the ZX7R and ZXR750's, such beautiful bikes. Good luck with your project, will definitely be keeping my eye on this thread!

On a side note, did you just so happen to be riding it today? Turning off Tonkin Hwy onto Welshpool rd East? I swear I saw a blue ZXR750 this afternoon on my way home.

    parts collection has started!

    alright you smart PSB peep

    what are emissions blanking plates?

    the blurb

"They'll replace the clean air plates on your engine, allowing you to bin all of the associated pipes and save a chunk of weight. Your engine will also only have fresh air to breathe, potentially increasing power. As fitting these parts will affect the emissions of your engine, they are sold for race/track use only"

    AIS/PAIR.

Usually used when you put aftermarket exhausts on, to stop the above from putting fresh air into the exhaust to burn up the unspent fuel still in the system.

With this still functioning, you get pops on deceleration, and in some cases massive pops too as the unburnt fuel burns up. When you block this off, the unburnt fuel is starved from air as such doesn't ignite.

some of the parts arrived, so i've started to get things going

Took the fairing and the tank off

Its pretty grotty, its going to take a lot of work to clean it up.
I dont have a chain breaker so I couldn't get the chain off. Went to Repco, they don't sell em. Ebay?

Gave everything a high pressure clean and then started getting the old decals off and clean everything with Septone grease and wax remover

Then the tank. Getting those disgusting lighting strike decals off.
The OEM Kawasaki and the existing tank protector was a real bugger, had to sand them off

So tomorrow, need to patch all the scratches up with fibreglass filler and then prime. That's a job in itself.
    Yuck

should have attended dodgy spray painting 101, but with the advice of youtube, i had a go

sanded back the big crack in the tank to find it was a dent that had been bogged up before. Seems like the tank was green. It's going full circle
    Filled with Septone glass filler

    spray with primer

mostly done, needs another sand with 600 grit and a wipe down

after all that and I forgot to do the front wheel fender. DUH

Let see if Potato thinks i've done and ok job otherwise its back to the drawing board.....

Ill post again when i've got them sprayed with the new green, white and black.

I have to get some more decals to get that race bike street cred haha. I have Ohlins stickers. I have race numbers.
Whats else do I need. I should run a poll haha

went and said ello to the nice Murray West at MWR

He sold me some braided brake and clutch lines in Kawasaki green

And a shark fin for some racing street cred at half the price of those on the net

    ordered some rearsets

Dropped my fairings off to Potato for painting next year

So thats where im at. Most parts ordered. Just have to get the painting done, then put it all back together again

To say that excited is a mild understatement......

Just need to research dual compound tyres
