Best way to protect your sneakers is to leave them off and wear proper motorcycle boots. I once have witnessed a crash where a guy litteraly right in front of me had a low sider. His sneakers were ripped of his feet and were like 50m apart from each other. One of his feet was bloody mince meat in a sock. Because he was in shock he tried to walk on it and we had to calm him down so he would sit down. Even the ambulance guy was a bit upset when he saw it. Do yourself a favour and wear proper boots.

Motorcycles used to have hand change gear linkages...could always go back to that...'save the sneakers' would be incentive enough.

I rode around the block in shorts, tshirt, and thongs once to check my oil level. It felt like I was going to die. Anyone who wears sneakers on a bike is braver than I am

Just change your gearing to 26F 17R and don't change gears, sneekers will be fine. Make sure when fitting new gearing that your 'Manbun' is tight so your hair doesn't get caught in the chain and keep some rag in your leather satchel to wipe your hands on when finished.
Oh and ride the clutch to get it going, that's what its for after all.

That'd be off the road so often as to not cause the problem in the first place without that fancy ferdangle gear lever

No, I am not skilled enough to manage all those factors. It was slightly overcast with a slight chill in the air, and in my pants
