    What size wheels/tyres?
I just run an arkpak in the back, had to get smart alternator turned off to properly keep charged batteries though.

Ford ranger runs a smart alternator that only supplies minimal current to battery to keep it running. Is common for easily flattening batteries due to low voltage output. Ford dealers can turn this feature off so a constant 14v + is developed, which can then charge extra batteries or accessories. I have the old version arkpak, 630 iirc. A small second battery can also fit under rear seat of ranger, i believe there is a fitting kit for it.

I've swapped out a fuse on my alternator that allows it to pump out a bit more V to the battery. It can't be turned off in the ECU.
Up until then, it was as you say, deficient at charging my second battery.

As far as servicing my car goes - I happened to cross paths with a mobile mechanic whom I will now be using for my servicing.
He actually said the price I was charged by Toyota wasn't too far off the mark.
However - I expect there will be a difference in quality between the two...

Got a mate looking for a GQ Patrol or cruiser around the $12k mark if anyone knows someone selling.
