    Mobile mechanic Melville area?

Just went to go on a ride and my battery is dead.

My bike was built around the battery that was strung from the roof. So I can pull everything off just need someone who can remove the tank and fit the battery. BMW R1100s.

I need the bike for the Black Dog Ride leaving 18th.

Any recommendations on what to do as my mechanic has just gone on holiday Friday.

Try Derek Ball 0438926511 unless that's who is going on holiday He works on my old man's R1150RT so he knows what the go is.

Alternatively I can swing by with the trailer any time this week and we can take it somewhere.

Ok thanks So far, my new tool bought yesterday made what was a difficult job easy! Did not have to remove the tank just lift it. Any recommendations on battery brands types. This was new three years ago and glad it went now.

    Any brand but MotoBatt.

Before anyone comes to the defence of Motobatt, this has been covered umpteen times on PSB, Motobatt have terrible quality control, you will get wrecked

I looked up the BMWR1100s website for info. This said it all.

not laughing AT you, but WITH you. I said the exact same thing when I first went to check my stock battery, and being new to BMW, actually believed the propaganda krap about 'simple maintenance'....yeah, right...not if periodic battery maintenance is considered 'simple'
My fix, if you can call it that, is the most reliable, gelcell battery I could find (and cost is no object if a cheap battery makes you go thru battery-service-hell every time), reliable clean battery connections and a microporcessor-controlled charger.
I think the designer who came up with the S battery placement setup should be sentenced in purgatory to having to swap S batteries endlessly, over and over again...on the side of the road, at midnight, in a pouring rain...with the OEM toolkit...

Here is where they hide the battery.

I had just stripped it down put new filter in, obsessive compulsive cleaning then put it back together last night and took this pic.

Leaving Thursday on 4,500 kilometre ride so glad it happened now.

I contacted the local Batteries are us, the guy was out riding and knew the correct battery for my bike off the top of his head. He has Motobatt in stock and can get Yuasa in. I would prefer the Yuasa. It just making getting ready a bit of a juggle as I need to spend Tuesday in Northam. Thought I was all set but had suspicion on the battery as ABS was not coming on after starting the motor. It's either battery or starter motor according to my mechanic. Looks like it is battery which is probably good news. All doable.

Looking on forums there us quite a bit of discussion on Motobatt issues.

The wrong Output Battery was fitted last time so probably why it's died.

Mmmm. Three years ago I asked for a top of the range battery before riding to Alice Springs as preventative maintenance.

Since that battery was fitted I have had difficulty engaging the ABS when cranking the starter over. My new mechanic said this is usually a battery issue and maybe starter motor. I have just found out that a deep cycle battery had been fitted instead of what I had asked for.

The world is now back on its axis! The ABS is working as intended and the starter motor spins much quicker.
