    Clutch in

Does the key have a battery/try your spare key

    Common Problem
If its anything like the getz you will find that it is a key antenna problem where the immobiliser code can not be read. The connector plug for the antenna coil has poor pin contact and needs to be hardwired or chopped/redone.

Just home now jump leads wouldn't work so had to jump start it so I'd say the alternator is gone. May price one tomorrow

The car should still start with jumper leads - the Hyundai will get enough power from the other car to start.

It should at least continue to run whilst the jumper leads are connected between the two cars.

If you need to replace the alternator then get a price on a Bosch one from MTQ Engine Systems in Malaga (ie Bosch sales place).

Those Excel alternators are tricky to get out...have to loosen the rad mount and other shit just to get clearance.

We must be talking about different Hyundai Excels, I swapped mine in about 10mins. Fairly common for the Alternator to die, forunately they're fairly cheap to replace, not worth rebuilding.
Have had the clutch switch fail on a Lantra though, best just to pin across the plug and forget the switch.
