I love the idea of a motorsport park/complex involving lots of different sports , a 4.5k gp type track would end up not being used much at all due to running costs

If there are some engineers part of the committee is it not part of there "duty to safety" of all parties who use the track to have " best practices in place " , no exception to participate.

Ah, I see. Longer is costlier, hence more people needed through the gate. Cheers.

Well Queensland had Surfers Paradise and Lakeside and Morgan Park all running at the same time. QR brings a LOT of money into Ipswich. Barbs was Borked 40 years ago and its Borked now.

    I'd dissagree.
Our events regularly sell out. We have massive turnouts to the bike race meetings as we are not divided amongst numerous race clubs (I'd guess the same with the cars?)
Time and time again the events over this side get massive entries for P.I and SMSP when compared to the likes of broadford.
Champions run events at broadford which can at times be almost empty. Pretty rare that a ride day at P.I won't be sold out.
The ability to run a smaller track can be utilised for smaller clubs/events where volunteers may be thin on.

I get that there is a gamble of sorts in it, but people want big and fast and varied tracks. They will pay for that privilege too.

There is also the drawcard for national events when you dangle a facility under their nose. It's future proofing, in my opinion, to retain those when new venues arise.

I see your point 66 , But racers are a small group when looking for gov funding much better odds with more people involved ,I think you would have a lot more riders , now if only we had the census results

Indeed we are a very small voice, but we finally seem to have some attention, so I go big.

What's twiggy up to these days? Was it him that liked his cars? Let's give him a garage in exchange for an extra km.

You're right of course Aaiden. I think we get through this legal issue first, get the lease assigned to MSWA then the DSR money will be available to start design work. The publishing of the independent Engineers audit will be the other trigger to help this get off the ground. If we can get a GP length track right from the start we will. But it's one game at a time as the AFL coaches always say.

We all expect the Hall Report will say the existing track is unsafe for motorcycles. MA will have no option but to remove the permit if the independent Engineer says it's unsafe for motorcycles. If MA don't pull the permit DSR will instruct them to.

To fix Barbagallo properly will take time and lot's of money. I could see the track being closed for extended periods as each area is fixed ... but the track should be 12m wide which is major renovation and effects everything.

Considering track availability is a problem the best option is to leave Barbagallo running and build a second track across the road. A lot more will be built with the same amount of money when you start on a clean site.

Motorcyclists are going to have make the sacrifice of no track access for about 6 months. That's a small price to pay to have an FIM 12m wide circuit of at least 3km. I'd be really disappointed if riders complain.

I think a lot longer than six months...

The report is already in progress and the moment that says the track is unsafe for motorcycles, it should have the permit removed...

It will take years to plan and build a FIM/FIA quality track...

I would happily pay to help with something like sepang track with proper facilities and proper grandstands, not make shift scaff tube stands.
This is the problem with perth we don't look at what projects could bring/do, just see $$$ and they won't get used/negativity nothing gets done and we have morons trying to bring in tourists with a f*cking hole in the ground.

No it won't. All the approvals are done and the clearing permit is almost ready. As soon as the lease is signed things can move. It's the legal action that's delaying things.

I've had meetings with DSR. They're not going to shut down motorcycle road racing in this state. They recognise it's a legitimate sport and is linked to road safety. The design is a quick process. Building 3km or 4.5km of pavement is easy and quick as an engineering project. It's only about 6 to 8 weeks work. We're using prefab buildings for offices, medical centre, ablutions etc.

The pit bay complex will be flat roofed tilt slab construction that will serve as a spectator platform. There will be cast in hold down points for corporate tents and temporary grandstands for larger meets. The plan is for efficient use of capital. We're not going to waste money on building things that will be used only a couple of times per year. Think the $13m of taxpayers money spent on the centre pit complex at Barbagallo that's lucky to be used for a week per year. I see it as a 6 month project.

Scott, how can we express our willingness to help?

I'm a mechanical engineer and im willing to shovel dirt until my arms are dead.

We're going to form a project team at the right time. There's work we could do ourselves on a volunteer basis. One of those items is the construction of the tyre buffers in front of the first line of defence. That requires drilling holes in car tyres and cable tieing together and securing the smooth conveyor belting to the front. There will be plenty of opportunities for all of us to pitch in. I'm the same in that I'd camp at the site in my van and work 12 hour days to see this thing materialise.

We have to be careful that the work done on a voluntary basis is not specialist or dangerous as MSWA will have a duty of care.

The MSWA FB page will keep people up to date.

Can 35 mill be enough to build a quality track, plus facilities, plus 'incidentals' and of course the bottomless pit of money that it takes for project management /licensing , ect.? Especially after the costings to merely repair a series of unsafe areas at Barbs?

What is the true structure of the MSWA? CEO [???] , John Clark? No mention at all online, bar Foozbook and Business News.
Who are the board of directors? How did they get in principal funding ?

Contact Address? Number? [publicly accessible, ASIC requirements] Website?

What are the future population density's of the area? Noise restrictions for main events, weekday usage?

Hope this is a legit plan and not fluff, where millions of dollars of funds disappears into pockets. As Rich posted, the ACTUAL time frame of completion? Years?

I keep hearing SOR as late as Sunday, but waiting to hear what is said after the today tonight's media announcement.

Hope something gets going and soon, but just so many unanswered questions...
