If KTM want to pay someone to be disappointing on their bike, I'll do it for a lot less than 1.5mil a year.

As long as its more than 55k a year it isn't a pay cut

Aww man, watching him crash before crossing the start line is one of the greatest moments of GP racing. I don't think anyone will be able to top it, unless they manage to bin a can-am spyder.

Sorry I made an error there. Typing on my phone! Smith and Pol signed to KTM for $1m each. Not $1.5m.

    Still a lot of $

Well if there's a silver lining I'd say KTM is getting a lot more exposure with Smith's woeful performances than if he were coming mid- to 2/3rds pack...

Read an article a few weeks back 'speculating' (that famous word), that KTM and Red Bull are willing to throw as much money as needed at the project (unlike Aprilia) to get it to a level where they could secure the services of Marc Marquez who is a Red Bill sponsored rider. And that Marquez would be likely to go to secure his legacy as the one of the GOATs...winning championships on two different bikes.

Doesn't sound implausible to me, but definitely a few years off.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see Marquez at Ducati one day. I think he's one of the only riders who could adapt to the aggressive, muscle it round the track style.

So basically what Red Bull did with Jaguar and then Renault in F1. Pump as much coin into the project, get to the top and win everything.

    Rea to replace Iannone? Legit?
    http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport/...-in-at-suzuki/
Far too much contractual bs I'd reckon. Like if Smith's results don't improve, rather than terminate his contract they'll just do swapsies with Kallio.

I was listening to the BT Sport MotoGP Podcast driving from Adelaide to Dubbo yesterday...It's really quite good. Anyway...

They were talking about Romano Fenati, who was booted from the VR46 Moto3 team last season for behavioural issues, including a run in with Rossi's best mate Uccio.

They said this season with his new team he's been acting mature and humble. They put it down to the fact his new team don't take any shit, and enforce discipline.

Walking around like you can do whatever you want? I wonder where Fenati learnt that?

I rather Rea get a ride.

Let Rossi recover properly - get Rea in the spotlight again.

I read that the independent teams have been given more $$ this year so they can hire more engineers etc to help level the playing field, so comparing this year to last might not be too fair. As for Pol, I rate him.. He's done pretty well on some average gear.

Not an easy task..just ask Toyota and BMW. And without Marquez, you could include Honda in there.

Having read a few articles about KTM, they have their sh$t sorted and it explains their improvement.

Being almost German probably helps too.

The problem with that argument is that before Smith/Pol, Crutchlow, Edwards, Spies and Dovi all rode the same package. All got on the podium and had far better results than those two. Both Zarco and Folger have been on the podium this year and have had consistently better results than Pol or Smith. If everyone that rides for tech 3 in the last ten years has scored podiums except for Smith, Pol and Toseland it's a fair assumption that they're the problem.

In the case of Pol, the main rivals he beat to win his world title were Redding and Rabat, how have they gone in the GP? Maybe Pol got he championship due to mostly being in the right place at the right time.

The Yamaha has been the best satellite bike on the grid for some time.

Not sure why he would really want to but anyway, admire the effort.

Hope he doesn't lose control at some critical point and take somebody out though.......

Or maybe Marquez/Dovi/Vinales/Pedrosa all fall down in front of him, Zarco and Folger both get secret message to "run out of fuel", Cruchlow gets taken out by Miller and KTM's and Aprilla's get the other podium spots.......did I miss anyone?

So work has been pretty boring so i've been listening to the BT Sport MotoGP Podcasts from 2016.

Their prediction for the rookies in 2017 was Sam Lowes would do great things, and Zarco and Folger would choke... "Zarco doesn't have the mental strength to ride in MotoGP".
