There used to be a guy behind the Causeway bikeshops who wasn't too badly priced if you wanted them ASAP

I thought K&N were one of the brands you couldn't get from the US? Well they used to be

Ok maybe its a car only thing, but I've seen them leak around where the removal nut is. Filters werent tightened via the nut either incase you're thinking that, only by hand.
Since seeing that, has just been a habit since then to always pay for genuine, which really doesnt cost too much more, or often less. Stuck filter? I just use a claw tool.
Yes the nut would be great for lock wiring though..

Thought I'd bump this thread, with something interesting I found...

The other day, I borrowed an oil filter cutting tool from a mate (like the below) just to check out a couple of used filters I had at home.

So anyways, I had K&N, Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki filters.

So anyways, whilst trying to cut open the K&N filter, As I slightly added pressure to the cutter to go deeper, the filter cover just popped out of the seam where the end cap sits! I didnt even end up cutting the filter open!
You can see where the cutter was trying to cut into, and you can see the height of the end caps that I did cut off compared to the K&N end cap....

    What do you think?

I can see why the flange popped off.....as you were cutting the filter body the lower edge flared out due to the pressure of the cutting tool.....but then that begs the question "why didn't the genuine ones not pop off too"?.....is the K&N body just pressed onto the flange and do the genuine ones have a rolled edge to the flange that grips the body better??.....if this is the case then genuine it is for me

My bike runs an internl filter element and picked 1 up from suoercheap. Only cost $13 they dont have parts listings for bikes but if you can find the part number online they can order it.

+1 After seeing that I wont be touching K&N filters last thing I'd be wanting is to be doing a high speed and the filter pops and lunches the motor and even worse dumps oil all over the rear tyre and sends me down the road
