    Speedway/solo's

So went to the motoplex last night ( as a side note, froze my balls off!) and was first time I've seen the speedway there.
Always been drags at that venue for me.
Last time I saw sprint cars etc was at Claremont .

Anyway I really missed seeing solo's and sidecars, was discussed and apparently it's too dangerous for them there?
This true? and if so, can they not make it safe enough?

Old news for plenty I'm sure but it just wasn't the same for me without seeing them.

Motorcycling in general just seems to be too dangerous in West OZ

They run at Pinjar Park near Barbagallo Raceway, and occasionally Collie (I think).

Track would have been prepped for sprintcars. Didn't the plex have a dedicated solo track on the inside of the car track

Hmm that's interesting? Can't say I have been to the Speedway since it moved, only been to the drags a couple of times since Wonder what it is that makes it more dangerous than Claremont?

    Sniff,

It was usually this time of the year the Test Match would be on at Claremont.

Australia vs England with about two or three sprint car races in between the bikes and sidecars.

    Fuck I miss that place.

Once upon a time they used to run a tote on the races.

Maybe an option for funding of motorsport in the future.

Everything is too dangerous in WA. The safety Police are sucking all the life out of every single thing. It's motorsport for Christs' sake, the danger element is at least half of the fun and attraction of doing it. Some one needs to stop these safety twats before they completely and utterly fuck the whole country.

" Safety " or " Doing it safely " Has become a catch phrase for so many... from business to recreation activities..

Even the Sydney Hobart race takes lives at times... a yacht race.???? Turn around and limp home if it breaks..( or you could just sail on.. wtf?? )

Drive safe---swim safe--drink safe--- yeh nah...that doesn't work ...look at the current rates of road trauma...domestic violence...and one punch fatalities...and if you focus on it,,drownings...

So the gubmit throws millions at TV advertising......not training and awareness programs....;-(

Wasted campaigns that don't even come close to remedies for major societal issues.

next step in the "safety" plan is not just to reduce speed limits. half the fuckers. that will mean exactly half the road trauma/deaths right?

Pretty sure they don't race at Motorplex due to a different clay/surface set up needed, thus the reason for Pinjar !
There is also plans for a larger track , with funding being sought from the public/commercial sector .
Speedway season is on , get up to Pinjar and check it out .

I can tell you right now how far this will get - absolutely nowhere. Motorsport in WA = no one who isn't directly involved doesn't give a flying fuck, and even those directly involved, no one seems to be forthcoming with funding.

Yeah the number of deaths from speed go down as the number related to fatigue go up meaning the only thing that comes out of it is increased revenue for the Govt

Wonder what's changed then? They raced on Claremont on the same clay and apart from having to race earlier before the Sprintcars chopped it up too much it was the same clay and preparation AFAICR

Cheers for the responses, at least I know where to go now if I want to see them.

If what you say is true salt-rider, sprint cars and solos etc used to race on the same
surface at Claremont, you would of thought they'd use the same at the motoplex.

    Maybe it wasn't that easy.

They can run on the same surface with similar prep but it has to be freshly prepped.

Once the cars have done a few laps and dried it out in places the grip can be unpredictable, the surface hardens quickly and increases traction as well as little holes forming in the surface that a car tyre bounces over but will cause serious direction changes for a bike.

PS. my experience is stock bikes early to mid 90s not solos but have spent some time around solos riders.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.
