So where is this video of the incident so we can all be judgemental?

    I feel left out.

If there was any wonder why the motor sport community cannot get together and sort out a decent track in W.A., read this thread.

You're absolutely right about the community being divided. Especially when it comes to an opinion on whether the track is in need of an upgrade or not.

As for people being judgemental and without reading back through every post, I don't think that's the case. It's a forum and you're always going to encounter opposing views.

They are chaining 180+ stacks of tyres together for Turn 7 today, if you wanted to volunteer some time to help out I'm sure they wouldn't mind you being nosey if you're wearing work gear. I'm going down Monday lunchtime with a generator and industrial spray equipment to help with white paint.

Pretty much everyone was supportive of the upgrade until reality hit that they'd lose track time. Those appearing supportive but then said fuck it, give us back our track were merely bandwaggoners. I feel for Scott who has campaigned tirelessly for this and it seemed people turned on him/the idea overnight.

I also guess when you can't ride much anymore or play on the track, you put into perspective the loss the track for 6 months (or even when people whinge they're off their bike for a week). Let alone the preventable loss of a loved one bringing things into perspective.

T7 finished about an hour ago. All ready for your fresh coat of paint.

I'm curious to know how this is being done and how it enhance rider safety.

If they're closer to the corner than before then this will make the track more hazardous. Turn 7 needs a lengthy run of area.

    EDIT:
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished item, particularly the drone's eye view.

My understanding is it eliminates the gaps between the earthmoving tyres but I don't think any of the modifications are actually aimed at rider safety. After all according to MWA and MCRCWA the track is safe and there are no problems. It's all to do with the cars

I'd like to know how much of this work is in response to the DSR report and how much is to keep FIA approval for the V8's?

If there's Work being done in response to the report then it should be easy enough to say "report said this therefore we're doing this..."
But I'm not seeing it, point me in the right direction if I missed it.

Obviously the track needs to keep the FIA compliance which is why the wall across the short track has to happen, so I'm not bagging that, just trying to get a clearer picture of what's driving each modification.

Who needs A grade riders anyway? MA obviously doesn't have their safety as a priority when they hand out permits for courses that put the best riders at the highest risk.
If they did they would just spring for air fences at a few rather sticky spots and carry on. This also applies to all bitumen tracks with MA permits around OZ with dangerous sections.
I see the work being carried out as a major step in the right direction.

Barbagallo Raceway will be conducting various track upgrades from 9th to 20th January 2017. The main work will include a barrier on the infield and*replacement of the tyre barrier with a concrete barrier between flag points 8 and 9. This is in line with required works identified in the CAMS tri-annual track inspection. We will also address some of the issues identified in DSR’s Hall Report in order to facilitate the anticipated return of motorcycle activity to the raceway.

Sorry if I've got it wrong, but I thought they wanted to move the barriers away, not bring them closer...

That's a little harsh Ryan considering all the work is being done by volunteers.

    This. ^^^
I was there on the day too...really I didn't want to get involved but Robin is being singled out.
If I was out there on the R1, coaching in that final session, I would have been doing 90%(+) and would have probably encountered the same issue, outcome may have been much worse. Ever since that day I always make a point of pointing out how important it is to be on the correct part of the track, Flouro-vest on or not.
Last session of the day is always "Cut-loose" time for the coaches.

I'm not having a go at the work being done, I just don't see how anything done is going to prevent the next person from dying. I guess all MA wants us to do is cross our fingers and hope it isn't somebody we know
