    So would you.
Never going to happen nor should it.

They just need to be smarter about it.

If any cop gave you their honest response... they love the chase. They look for it.
That is reckless endangerment, and a damn sight more dangerous than the idiot who instigated it.

I'll go back to my alcohol related domestic and pub violence if you don't mind. Least I don't get my shit seized or locked up for it.

in my younger days i was reported to cops for rippin skids.

a copper came round to my house and said look. theres no video proof and no cops saw it so you wont be stung for it. but next time i feel like lettin off some steam head down to the back of gozzy where theres nobody around and have a bit of fun. just dont hurt myself doing it.

I had the same thing happen a few times years back.
3am In my super loud V8 I took off from the lights in Northbridge super stupid. Didn't break traction or speed but it was loud and quick. As Im backing off, I hear sirens fire up but don't see anything but I pulled pulled up and waited. Cop screams around the corner, passes me then stops, backs up, gets out, runs up and tells me to shut it off. I do. He asks if its my car, does a license check, breath check, asks what Im doing. "Just showing off to some chics. It was stupid. I know. Didn't speed or break traction". He just shakes his head, tells me he's more worried about drunks stumbling in front being Northbridge, and told me to take that crap to the Freeway and lets me off.

Another time I hit some sprinkler spray in Morley around 7:30pm, traffic everywhere, I let the back end loose and fishtailed it a bit, got pulled up, told off, complimented on my vehicle control ("nice skid, held well"), then told to get on my way find and go to Malaga if I'm gonna do that stuff. Lol.

Oh, and noone believes this one but one time I was pulled up in Greenhead on Xmas day by a cop for speeding (130km/h). Couldn't find my license because it was buried in all the packed crap in the back seat. He looks in the back and sees my sleeping baby in the back and shakes his head. After a ten minute grilling about road safety, he just said "drive safe" and walks back to the car. I ask "you letting me go" and he says Merry Christmas. No country folk believe me to this day, reckon Greenhead cops always ping you. Go figure.

If that happened today I'd have been done for hooning and whatever else consequence for what was at least those times victimless incidents.

Life was/is a lot more fun when traffic police apply some discretion and are empowered to do so.

    3. You die/get seriously injured

When you run from Police, you're accepting that one of the above will happen. And the odds are stacked against you unless you're Joe Shabadoo.

Yep back in the day there was some discretion and common sense, I was on my way to work one morning many (20 years odd) when I pulled out onto Cambridge St towards Selby St in the wet in my 351C F100 and got the back end a bit loose, turned left onto Selby and a few hundred metres up the road the lights come on and an undercover Commonwhore pulls me over with 2 detectives
Short conversation where I expect to get a huge pineapple and fine and yellow sticker, the usual why was I doing it etc

Replied that powerful vehicle with light rear + crap re-tread tyres + fresh rain made it hard to get traction which they accepted and said to be more careful with my right foot Did give me a $25 fine for not displaying an in date rego sticker (had the new one in the glove box) though which I guess was cheap given what could have happened and certainly what would have happened these days

A year or so before my mate was hammering along the Fwy at nearly 140kmh when a Commode comes from a way back with lights on, he decides to floor it in his peripheral port RX3 and tops 200kmh before thinking this is a bad idea and pulls over, they ended up catching up and he got a fine for 20kmh over which is what they originally clocked him at but let him off anything else as he was pulling away and they figured he did the right thing by them

These days what would happen, massive chase with possible air support, vehicle seizure, massive fines and possible gaol time even though he did pull over

Really? I think most people would stop like they do now, and they would be well advised to do so.

I guess a lot really does come down to whether or not the safety of the public is priority over some traffic law enforcement...

Thread needs poll. If the police stopped chasing for hoon law dangerous or any other jailable offence, would you stop.

if they have your plate your done for anyway. so police should just quietly cruise up to read plate without lights sirens blaring. if driver / rider speeds up a bit cop car just pull back and have a chat ( insert pineapple ) later in the day at persons residence.

this is ofcourse assuming the plate and owner are 100% legit. fake plate / address would clearly make it difficult. but if your hooning with fake plates etc havent you already made the decision to run?

That's exactly the problem with mandatory jail for failure to stop - nobody will change their mind and pull over, making every pursuit a case of evade or crash trying.

Hmmm. If someone nicked my property I'd prefer the police try to establish ownership and reclaim it. I'm sure the majority of property owners would agree with such sentiment. Your solution seems devoid of such concern. Are you in insurance?

Im sorry its a poor analogy i meant when it comes to lights, sirens and turbo charged highway patrol car most people won't run regardless of the law because they will freeze. I wonder what the actual statistics for fail to stop are like.
