Alloy parts need to be thicker to survive cyclic stresses and by machining it down there will be a chance the part will EVENTUALLY fail.

Probably the reason Honda made it thicker.

I went to a machine shop today and he solved my problem for good. Somebody went to the machinist a while back with intentions to do something similar and they tried to press out the stem. The lower triple clamp exploded as there was an expanded part of the stem and the clamp had been cast around it.

I'm pretty sure the xr stem can be pressed out but the crf is an unknown and I'm not about to find out the hard way.

Conversion bearing it is. I can get one from the uk for less than $50 however I'm still waiting for the local lads to get back to me before I pull the trigger.

For ease of removal of 'smaller outer race' use a round file to relieve frame for a punch to sit in..?? .-)

sxv's being unreliable and a horrible choice of motorcycle unless you have 3 of them or only ride twice a year is just the facts. i thought about buying one when i first got into road riding, but decided i wanted to ride everyday not work on bikes

Shady7/8 2 complete bikes, one was used & abuse most bolts seized, other brought as parts to make a good one but never did, brought berg instead lol

I've acquired many a spare engine, and spare parts. Regardless of bike, always good to have solid spares with the way we ride them.
