Rider Down: Tonkin Hwy at Gosnells Rd East

"Major crash closing Tonkin hwy when a car collided with a motorcycle".

Traffic is banked back about 3km and reported at a standstill.

Accident occurred at 4pm, and emergency services are in attendance.

When's it going to stop people?

Never. There will always be dicks on bikes and there will always be dickhead cagers. I see comments like, "oh no, not another one, this is way too many". Is there an appropriate/acceptable number?

The number of bike crashes hasn't skyrocketed, you're just more aware of a lot of the crashes that happen because of people posting them/ reading news articles about it - most people would gloss over the headline and not give it a second thought.

Unfortunately this ^^ to a great degree, because we are MC riders and on a forum we'll hear about these incidents more often
A bit like when you get a new vehicle ie we bought a red Territory Ghia Turbo a few years back and then suddenly started seeing them all over the place

I've always noticed and taken notice of them, but there certainly seems to be more in the last weeks than previously.

Or like Kristy said, they are just being reported more as well

You've posted 3 of them just this month, I'm starting to think you're the one knocking all these riders down

In all seriousness, hopefully the rider pulls through with minimal injury.

The media gets a focus and then looks for more and more of the same.

Dog attacks, I have been responsible for investigating well over 300. Did you hear about them all. No the media refused to print any that did not involve the dog breed that they were focusing on. A Labrador that bit five people they thought it was a Rotty attack, their focus breed at the time. When I told them it was a Labrador they said they were not interested.

Dog attacks are happening every day in Perth but you only hear about the ones they select. Dangerous Dog Legislation only happened because of one media story.

So back to this incident let's hope for a good out come. I was in an incident yesterday that was very bad. My employer wants me to go to their assistance program today.

You've probably always taken note of them because you've always been interested in bikes. However, my next door neighbour couldn't give two shits and couldn't tell you if more or less have been getting acquainted with the road of late.

Yup, I wouldn't know about them otherwise thus my perception of frequency gets altered.

At least the reports are "a car and a motorcycle collided" as opposed to the usual "A motorcycle collided with a X"...

All the best to the rider

Thanks the whole thing just bad. Work is very good tho about it.

Thanks, I have been to trauma councelling this afternoon. The sirens of many emergency services coming was a bit of a trigger. Having attended many emergencies in my work over the years has a compounding effect I was told and there are advances in this treatment that I will learn of. I am positive about moving through this. I thought I was ok but thanks to a caring person I was guided to going for help.
